Job Description

The Data Base Administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment. This includes overseeing the development and organization of the databases and queries, supporting its users and assessing and implementing new technologies. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to handle unique and new challenges on-the-fly in an environment with variety of stakeholders.

Job Specific Duties:
  • Ensure that new database code meets company standards for readability, reliability, and performance
  • Identify resource-intensive queries on the server and suggest ways to improve performance on each
  • Develop efficient SQL Server T-SQL queries to meet request needs
  • Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business's Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Test backups to ensure we can meet the business' Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
  • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms
  • Install and configure new SQL Servers
  • Deploy database change scripts provided by third party vendors
  • Document the company's database environment
  • Diagnosing server reliability and performance issues

Required Skills/Experience:
  • 8+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2014
  • Knowledge of administration, replication, backup and restore of relational databases, specifically Microsoft SQL Server 2008 & 2014
  • Experience working with multiple databases across multiple servers including troubleshooting production SQL Servers and service outages.
  • Understands Windows Server (2008 R2/2012 R2) configuration and management, specifically as it relates to MS SQL Server installations and mission critical systems
  • Excellent understanding of coding with Microsoft T-SQL, stored procedures and views
  • Understands and is able to properly implement backup and disaster recovery procedures
  • Excellent work ethic and willingness to put in extra time as needed
