Position Summary:
Working with a dedicated Display, Instrument Cluster and Infotainment engineering team, the Display/Instrument Cluster Component Engineer is globally responsible for Display/HMI technologies, as well as, provides engineering support to maintain existing display and instrument cluster component families. This individual will be responsible and support from a hardware standpoint sub system and system and application engineering and design analysis functions within three major areas of concentration: agricultural, construction, and commercial vehicles. This individual will also investigate problems using disciplined problem solving methodologies and lead /review supplier problem solving documentation on electronic component issues. The individual will report into a global team with overall display, cluster and infotainment responsibility for the company's HMI technologies
Primary Responsibilities:
Performs engineering work and applied research, development, and design of existing and/or new displays and instrument clusters.
Gathers requirements for electronic component hardware needed for machine control with cross functional teams.
Authors technical specifications for electronic components including electronic instrument clusters and displays.
Review electronic component supplier design including schematic, worst case circuit analysis, printed circuit board layout, DFMEA, component and ergonomic styling.
Review and approve electronic component supplier validation test plans and reports, and failure analysis reports of electronic components in development.
Manage the electronic component supplier throughout the development, validation and production phases.
Develops, tests and implements engineering change requests (ECRs) for design revisions.
Analyzes and evaluates new or improved electronic/electrical components.
Designs, fabricates, tests, implements and modifies electronic/electrical components, products and systems.
Establishes test procedures and systems for inspection of electronic/electrical components.
Participate in problem resolutions of electronic components utilizing industry known best practices such as 8D, and 5Why,
Responsible for preparation of designs, layouts and drawings for electronic component hardware developed and/or improved,
Supports application, sys system and system engineering teams with preparation of reports,
Responsible in the facilitation of communication between engineering, manufacturing, quality and other functional areas within multi-disciplinary product development team environments,
Responsible for Design Of Experiments and Design Validation testing, as well as, the recognition and recommendation of design and validation gaps covering existing Off The Self display/cluster technologies and custom developed hardware,
Responsible for the technical liaison with suppliers
Responsible for internal customer satisfaction, documenting processes and best practices as well as reviewing detailed engineering drawings and releasing parts production procurement for global operations,
Responsible for recommendation and implementation of test equipment, disassemble experimental components, oversight of corrective actions and ownership in determining the cause of failures and/or travel to supplier sites as needed to facilitate communication between engineering and suppliers,
Responsible for the reporting and implementation of improvements to product engineering teams for execution based on knowledge gained through cross-functional interactions at the suppliers,
Responsible for the coordination of display and instrument cluster projects and their progress, interfacing regularly with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components and compliance to company requirements, specifications, standards and 2D/3D engineering documentation, interacting directly with interval customer agreeing on packaging constraints and technical requirements as well as drive required timing of delivery
Skill Set
The qualified candidate will have: A bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer engineering. A minimum of 5 years' experience concentrated in display/instrument cluster product development, electronic control modules or a combination of both. A minimum of 3 years' experience dealing with suppliers and/or customers. In-depth knowledge of principles and practices of electronic component validation for Automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, agricultural, construction, aerospace or medical equipment including Electrical, EMC, and environmental qualifications. In-depth knowledge of instrument cluster design, including gauges, lenses, mechanical construction, electrical circuits, I/O circuitry for electronic control. In-depth knowledge of the readability of instrument clusters, dot matrix display, LCD displays in direct sunlight. Understanding of the different layers and reflections that affect readability. Possess strong communication skills and the ability to engage and correspond with global network of teams, colleagues and interfaces in which English may be a second language. Possess the ability, knowledge and experience to interact, mentor and manage colleagues from various locations, regions and business sectors. Possess the ability to delegate activities, work, and requests to other work colleagues within and external to functional and reporting group. Preferred Qualifications: OEM experience or Tier 1 experience preferred but not required. Communication skills in foreign languages preferred but not required.
