Job Description
McCormick Taylor is seeking an experienced Structural/Bridge Engineer (Structural Engineer III) with a minimum of 5 years of bridge design experience to join our Baltimore, MD office location. The primary duties of the Structural Engineer III are to perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations for various transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and DOT (MDOT, MdTA, MTA, and local MD agencies) specifications and standards. Qualified candidates should have a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas related to bridge design; geotechnical/foundation design, substructure design, superstructure design, and retaining and noise walls. Candidates should also have bridge inspection experience and qualify as a NBIS Inspection Team Leader
Performing complex structural planning analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects
Perform detailed structural calculations in support of design and rehabilitation for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls
Perform NBIS level inspections for bridges, culverts, and other transportation related structures; including writing inspection reports
Support completion of final submittal documents for design and/or rehabilitation projects
Assist Manager with business development and MD project growth
Work will be in a hybrid in-office/work-from-home environment, with some field work and travel required
Job Requirements
Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience on transportation projects for the MDOT, MdTA, MTA, and local MD agencies. Additional McCormick Taylor client experience (VDOT, FDOT, PennDOT, etc.) a plus
B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure, Maryland License Preferred
Qualified NBIS Inspection Team Leader
NHI Fracture Critical Inspection Training a plus
Experience in all aspects of bridge design projects
Proficient with MicroStation CAD software
Experience with FEM structural analysis software (STAAD, CSI, etc.)
Experience with bridge design and analysis software (Merlin-Dash, RCPIER, CONSPAN, etc.)
OpenRoads and OpenBridge experience beneficial
Experience in load rating and bridge rehabilitation
Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and DOT/Agency design standards and specifications
Excellent oral and written communication skills
