The responsibilities of the Commercial Manager include:

  • Direct and co-ordinate the activities of a site technical office program workloads and advise on commercial strategy for successful project execution;
  • Manage commercial and project control matters of major projects including change management, procurement, prime contract management, cost control, earned value management, scheduling and risk management;
  • Develop and enforce commercial/project controls policies, processes and procedures;
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice and reports to Executives and Project Managers;
  • Lead all claims and change management with respect to clients and subcontractors;
  • Lead, train and develop commercial/project controls staff;
  • Manage the input of various bid phases including commercial review and risk analysis of contracts;
  • Oversee the commercial management of designers and the design process.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferred), Business or Law;
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience working on large heavy civil projects;
  • Experience working on large infrastructure projects is preferred;
  • Experience representing companies in adjudication, mediation and commercial negotiations, negotiating contracts, claims management/dispute resolution;
  • Experience developing and implementing strategies for risk and opportunity management;
  • Sound understanding of contractual, commercial and financial functions on major projects;
  • Knowledge of contract language, change management and legal requirements of contracts;
  • Ability to liaise/co-ordinate internal and external legal counsel and experts;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills;
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines;
  • Excellent people and leadership skills;
  • Willingness to travel regularly and overnight;
  • Bilingual (an asset), but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
