Job Title: School Psychologist
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Job Summary: The School Psychologist provides a full range of school psychological services to children ages 0-21, including screening and assessment; designing remedial educational programs; and individual and group counseling with school staff, parents, and outside agencies as appropriate. Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team to determine the student's eligibility for specialized services; appropriate programming; and ongoing progress.
Qualifications:
Doctorate or Master's Degree in School Psychology. Certification: Illinois PEL in School Psychology. A qualified individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of specific competencies to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job. principles and practices of speech and language therapy.
Chapter 122 Article 24-5 of the Illinois School Code mandates that School boards shall require of new employees to provide evidence of physical fitness to perform duties assigned and freedom from communicable disease, including tuberculosis. Such evidence shall consist of a physical examination a tuberculin test and, if appropriate, an x-ray. The cost of such examination shall rest with the employee. Must have a physical examination prior to employment. Must pass a comprehensive drug screening. Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check.

Terms of Employment: Confidential, Exempt 12-month (260 days) Employee.
Salary: Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and approved by the Board of Education.

- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms and disorders; principles and practices of speech and language therapy; pertinent codes, policies, regulations, and/or state and federal laws; and diagnostic criteria for many different learning disabilities and delays.
- Demonstrate knowledge of different teaching methods which may help at-risk students.
- Demonstrates skills in using a computer and related software applications and modern office equipment.
- Demonstrates skills in performing multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to upgrade professional skills to meet changing job conditions.
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating specialized equipment used in the treatment of communication disorders; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Job Responsibilities:
- Serves as an advocate for all children.
- Consults and collaborates with educators, parents, children, and other professionals or agencies to improve student outcomes.
- Provides functional academic/behavioral assessments that are relevant to the problem of student characteristics and are applicable for implementation for intervention and results
- Develops individual, group, or system-level interventions, which are designed to improve or resolve the identified problems or concerns of students including academic, social/emotional/behavioral, and mental health needs related to educational progress.
- Provides support, instructions, technical assistance, and ongoing monitoring of progress towards measurable, identified goals for students.
- Provides collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting staff with suggestions and implementation of RTI; pre-referral intervention strategies; and providing recommendations and modifications for special education/at-risk students in the classroom setting.
- Engages in professional development through membership in professional organizations, reading professional journals, and research.
- Involves in data analysis and evaluation, using data outcomes for implementing plans at an individual, group, or systems level.
- Engages in public awareness activities that assist consumers in understanding services and the anticipated outcomes of these services.
- Provides individual and group services to children and/or parents that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct.
- Screens and evaluates referred children including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observations, and writing reports which states the evaluation findings and provide for educational program recommendations.
- Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and the individualized education program (IEP) committee contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on the child's educational plan.
- Reports all violations of rules and regulations to the Director of Special Education.
- Consult with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the child's program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
- Establishes and monitors the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school psychologist services to students/staff and works collaboratively to accomplish the goals of the IEP.
- Adheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession.
- Assists other personnel as may be required to ensure an efficient and effective working environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
