The Clinical Nurse Specialist will report directly to the Director of Cardiovascular Nursing Services, who is a key nurse executive within the Medical Center, leading the inpatient-oriented nursing services that are associated with its largest and most profitable center of excellence. The Director has direct responsibility for the following nursing services and associated full-time equivalent staff:
  • CCU (30)
  • CVSICU (32)
  • Surgical Telemetry (71)
  • Medical Telemetry (63)
  • Monitor Room (15)

These 200 FTEs are associated with the "third floor" critical care nursing services of WMC and the Heart & Vascular Center service line, and will benefit from the clinical expertise and guidance of an exceptional, experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist. As one of our Nurse Leaders, our CNS will also play a key role in supporting our Shared Governance model and in mentoring staff as WMC prepares for its nursing Magnet application. All services are staffed by a talented, dedicated staff and there are few RN vacancies; as of 10/31/06 there is a mere 4.9% vacancy rate for our Professional Practice Ladder "bedside" RNs at the Winchester Medical Center, with a strong supportive Float Pool and rare use of Agency Nurses. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will specifically support the Critical Care and Telemetry nursing staff, and work closely with our patients, families, and physicians to provide outstanding care and clinical outcomes.

The requirements for this position include:
  • Based on primary state of residency and in accordance with current Florida Board of Nursing Regulations, must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Florida with either a: Multi-state license, under the Nurse Licensure Compact or Single-state license, valid in Florida only
  • Hold a Master's Degree in Nursing designed specifically to prepare an RN for advanced practice in a clinical specialty of Nursing, and hold a current specialty certification from a relevant national certifying organization
  • Be registered (or eligible) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the state of Florida
  • Possess a strong cardiac nursing background with a proven track record of clinical excellence and nursing leadership abilities
