General Summary:
The Breast Program Medical Director (Sussex) is the physician leader responsible for supervising all clinical and strategic aspects of the breast program at the Sussex campus, including establishment of an American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NABPC) in collaboration with the Oncology Service Line. S/he will be charged with leading all activities related to the Sussex campus Breast Program, to include graduate medical education and research. The Breast Program Medical Director (Sussex) will assist in developing and advancing the strategic vision for breast health by partnering with the Breast Program Medical Director (Kent), Medical Group leadership, hospital leadership, the Chief of Surgery, Oncology Service Line administrative leaders, medical staff leadership and community physicians, so that all parties would work together as appropriate to insure the growth and quality of the Breast Program. The role encompasses direct leadership of any employed Breast clinicians and collaboration with Medical Group administrators, as well as affiliated community-based non-employed OB/GYNs, surgeons and oncologists. Responsibilities would include ensuring NABPC accreditation and sustainable growth of the breast program, creation of ambulatory practices, assisting with recruitment, supporting our clinical education research capabilities, managing outcome scorecards and continuing to improve patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
1. The Breast Program Medical Director (Sussex) will be responsible for achieving excellence in the overall performance of the Bayhealth Breast Program in collaboration with the General Surgery Division and the Oncology Service Line.
2. Responsible for the leadership of any employed Breast surgeons, as well as collaboration with non-employed community-based breast surgeons and the Medical Staff Department of Surgery. Performs performance reviews of physicians for 30-day, 90-day appraisals and annual performance, as well as on an as-needed basis meeting with physicians.
3. Works closely with the Director, Breast Program - Kent, Oncology Service Line administrative leaders and the Senior Leadership team, to develop and implement the overall system Breast Health strategic plan.
4. In collaboration with the VP, Physician Services & Clinical Integration, VP, Physician Services, BMG Senior Director Surgical Services and practice managers, oversees the daily clinical workings of the BMG Breast Health Program ambulatory, surgical and hospital operations. Effectively resolves clinical issues that arise. General functions and responsibilities include but not limited to the oversight of issues involving day-to-day clinical operations, administrative responsibility for decisions and activities affecting patient care including the investigation of breaches of quality patient care or ethical conduct by medical staff members and makes appropriate recommendations to the governing body.
5. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team (hematology-oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, and pathology) on breast cancer patient's plan of care. Advocates for best practice, guidelines-driven patient care in multidisciplinary conference settings. Communicates patient's plan of care to appropriate team members (i.e. Primary Care).
6. Establishes "coaching" or "mentoring" relationships with the team, paying special attention to members who are new or in need of assistance to plan and enhance their professional growth.
7. Assisting with recruitment of new physicians, APCs and staff (where needed).
8. Supporting Bayhealth clinical education and research capabilities
9. Developing and managing outcome scorecards and continuing to improve patient outcomes.
10. Participates in work groups, teams, task forces and committees to support ongoing division functions, provide input, and resolve ad hoc issues.
11. Fosters sound financial practices by participating in budget activities, promoting cost containment and efficient use of system resources, making recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements and assists in the education medical staff about cost-containment issues.
12. Leads with the vision and creates a culture that reflects a patient care-focused environment. Strives to be a servant leader who exemplifies mission-appropriate excellence and professional growth of the members of the department and promote a culture which supports the mission statement of Bayhealth.
13. Works with others to ensure compliance with regulations and governing rules of Bayhealth and contracted payers to include Federal and State payers. Works with leadership, clinicians and staff in the development and enhancement of practice guidelines.
14. Supports the Bayhealth' mission, vision, goals, objectives, and values. Assures physicians adhere to the Bayhealth' policies and procedures; following the Bayhealth' standards for ethical business conduct.
15. Up to 70% clinical responsibilities including some participation in general surgery call.
16. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
- Education: Doctor of Medicine; Medicine; Or Osteopathic Medicine. Or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
- Credential(s): Physician - Controlled Substance Registration Physician MD Board certified by a recognized National Board.; Or Physician DO Licensure. Board Certified in Surgery
- Experience: Required: Five (5) years of clinical experience. Two (2) years of medical directorship experience or progressive administrative responsibility.
