CONSULTANT ONCOLOGIST (FULL TIME & LOCUMS)

This position is also being advertised prior to contract renewals with a view to attracting suitably qualified Bermudians/Spouses of Bermudians & PRC Holders. Registration with Bermuda Medical Council is mandatory.

COMPENSATION: Base salary $376,909.52 (US equivalent) per annum, monthly $2,000.00 compensation towards, housing subsidy, $5,000.00 relocation allowance. Comprehensive health plan, 30 days paid vacation leave per annum and 5 days paid study leave per annum and Malpractice coverage.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Establishes with departmental staff and administration, the scope of services required to meet the needs of clients and the hospitals
  • Communicates hospital rules and regulations, standards, policies, procedures, practices and activities to Locums. Integrates their feedback into operational problem-solving and decision-making
  • Reviews and determines the necessary resources to provide an effective oncology service
  • In collaboration with Clinical Coordinators and other health professionals, facilitates problem-solving.
  • Providing consultations for all new clients (viz. all newly diagnosed malignancies-solid tumours), which may be on an inpatient or out-patient basis.
  • Prescribing and monitoring courses of chemotherapy, injectable or oral medications
  • Evaluating andprovidingtheappropriatemanagement on all lab reports on clients being actively treated
  • Conference meetings with clients and/or their caregivers, including Primary Care Physicians or PALS nurses, a nonprofit organization to provide home visits and care to cancer patients in the community for abnormal results that require immediate attention and/or hospital admission
  • Clinical evaluation of chemotherapy clients to assess side effects and treatment response, at 1 - 8 weekly intervals throughout course of therapy


Qualifications &/ Registration required:
  • Board Certified Oncologist
  • Current Specialist qualification as an Oncologist
  • A preference of 3 years post certification experience of which two should be within the hospital setting.
  • Maintain appropriate Continuing Medical Education.
  • Contributes to the on-going education of nurses and other hospital staff
  • Current registration with Medical Council in relevant jurisdiction
  • Eligible to register with Bermuda Medical Council
  • Proficiency and advanced knowledge with Microsoft Suites
  • As400, Physician Portal ( Candidate will receive training )
  • Synapse (PACS) (Candidate will receive training )
