POSITION GOAL:
The Lead SLP oversees the daily operation of early intervention/early childhood special education therapy services, supporting staff, and providing direct and consultative services in the area of speech and language development for infants/toddlers/preschoolers with developmental delays and their families.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY/SUPERVISION:
The Lead SLP works with teaching assistants, preschool teachers, therapists, and other specialists to ensure the coordinated and effective delivery of speech-language and other therapy services to infants/toddlers/preschoolers with developmental delays. Through this team of people, the Lead SLP is responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of evaluations, as well as direct, and consultative therapy services, departmental processes and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Positions may consist of some or all of the following duties.)Assist the Supervisor of Early Intervention Services regarding training needs, personnel actions, and evaluations of therapy personnel. Determine schedules, assign duties, and provide ongoing direction to Speech Language Pathologists, Speech Language Pathology Assistants and Occupational Therapists. Design and evaluate therapy services; develop and implement procedures to address clinical practice issues. Conduct assessments/evaluations of children's speech, language, and oral-motor functioning and complete written transdisciplinary evaluations. Develop measurable, functional IFSP goals and objectives and individual programs for addressing communication delays and coach classroom staff, parents, and community preschool staff in their implementation. Monitor requirements of and changes to, procedures for billing of related services for Speech Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy. On-going monitoring of billing submitted by therapy staff. Consult with the staff at assigned sites, providing information on the children's disabilities, assessments, IFSPs, goals related to communication needs, and curricular adaptations. Locate specialized equipment and other resources as necessary. Provide support and coaching to families in understanding and coping with their child's communication needs and to assist family members in supporting their child's communication development. Participate in team planning, model development, training and problem resolution regarding child, family, staff, and team needs. Comply with EI/ECSE and ESD rules and policies. Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM PREREQUISITES:
Master's degree in Communication Disorders. A minimum of five years experience providing Speech Therapy services to infants/toddlers/preschoolers with developmental delays and their families. At least one year experience coaching and directing staff. Must hold required Oregon licensure in speech-language pathology, possess a certificate of clinical competency from the American Speech and Hearing Association, and meet professional competencies required by the Department of Education for supervisor authorization. Possess general knowledge of developmental disabilities assessments, program development and implementation, behavior management techniques, and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Demonstrated team leadership skills, including group facilitation to develop program goals and respond to problems and opportunities. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, and to establish effective working relationships with children and their families, as well as with staff, health care professionals, and community agencies. Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and other documents required by policy or regulation. Willingness to travel and to be based at various sites. Must obtain First Aid certification within sixty (60) days of employment. Pass a background check and maintain enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History registry.

LENGTH OF POSITION: .6-1.0 FTE/220 days (Extended school year calendar)
SALARY RANGE: Per licensed collective bargaining agreement for 2024-2025 school year: $62,844 to $98,865 annually.
