Mission or Goal of the Unit
Established in the early 1960s, the Virginia TreatmentCenter for Children (VTCC) is the Child and Adolescent Division of the VCUMedical Center's Department of Psychiatry and the pediatric psychiatric serviceof the comprehensive array of services offered by Children's Hospital ofRichmond at VCU. VTCC combines amulti-prong mission of Clinical Care, Teaching, Research andAdvocacy/Collaboration to impact a wide array of behavioral health and socialdeterminants of health.
VTCC operates a new (2018) inpatient andoutpatient facility, incorporating the latest technology and family friendly environmentutilizing a 32 inpatient acute bed service; an expanded multi-disciplinaryoutpatient service; an innovative mental health resource center to assistpediatricians and families, and opportunities for collaborative research andtraining through the Commonwealth Center for Child and Family Studies (CICFS).
Chief Purpose of this position
This Department of Psychiatry seeks a Child Psychiatrist for the support of the clinical and teaching missions primarily, with opportunities forresearch and community collaboration to advance access to critical demand childpsychiatry services and training. Clinical work includes a focus on outpatient and periodic consultation/liaisonservices to pediatric medicine/specialties and the pediatric emergencydepartment. Candidates are expected to perform inpatient rotational coverage and on-call, shared with a team of Physicians. The candidate will provide teaching to medical students, residents, fellows, andtrainees with opportunities to consult/train in community settings and collaborate with allied professionals with aninterdisciplinary team approach. Theposition is flexible to address candidate's interests and professionaldevelopment with regard to treatment focus and scholarly pursuits.
Position Responsibilities
1. Teaching - Teach child andadolescent psychiatry to medical students, residents, fellows, nursepractitioners, graduate trainees.
2. Clinical - Providepsychiatric assessment and treatment to primarily in an outpatient setting andconsultation/liaison services to Pediatric medicine/ED through onsite andtelepsychiatry. Participates inDivision-wide rotational inpatient coverage and on-call services.
3. Service - Departmentally assignedcommittees.
4. Other - Attending Grand Rounds, participation in CME activities,professional development activities, Good Citizenship activities.

Required Qualifications
- MD Candidates will be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and have demonstrated experience with pediatric patients and their families, fostering an interdisciplinary team approach. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in Virginia.
- Clinical Experience in outpatient, C/L and inpatient settings. (Populations include ages 3-17 including intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum, and mental health)
- Experience in teaching within an academic setting.
- Comfortable with mentoring trainees.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and desire to work in an academic medical setting.
