Practice Details
Sanford Medical Center houses a 12 bed PICU, with additional flex beds if needed. Floor shared with 24 bed pediatric unit, and 40-bed Level III NICU.
Department currently consists of 5 pediatric cardiologists (one dual boarded in adult congenital) and 1 pediatric nurse practitioner.
Call responsibilities include hospital consults and reads, no clinic.
TTE and Fetal echocardiograms completed by in department board certified congenital sonographers.
Regional (State of North Dakota and Western Minnesota) Echocardiograms and ECGs read by cardiologists.
Outreach clinic: 8-10 patients scheduled with dedicated certified congenital sonographers traveling with providers.
Specialized pediatric lipid clinic as well as adult congenital heart disease clinics within department.
Advanced imaging services available include congenital TEE, chest and coronary CTA, as well as cardia MRI.
Excellent regional services available for interventional and electrophysiology cardiac catheterization as well as cardiovascular thoracic surgery support

Job Description
Pediatric Cardiology Core Privileges include the ability to perform history and physical examination, admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide treatment or consultative services to children and adolescents up to the age of 21 presenting with cardiovascular disease and adults with history of congenital heart disease and disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Physician also may provide care to patients in the intensive care setting in conformance with Rules and Regulation and hospital policies.
Qualifications
M.D. or D.O. degree.
Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways:
An applicant who has just completed a fellowship shall provide his/her fellowship log.
OR
An applicant who is not applying directly out of a fellowship shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement of 25 Pediatric Cardiology procedures during the past two years with satisfactory quality data.
OR
If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant's clinical-based activity for the past 24 months is required. The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement 25 Pediatric Cardiology procedures during the past two years with satisfactory quality data.
More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.
Successful completion of a Pediatric residency program of at least three years' duration, and completion of a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology of at least 3 years' duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. The Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors may consider training at residency or fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than the above.
Certification by the appropriate specialty /subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement. (Refer to each entities policy for grandfather exceptions)
