This senior leadership position has primary oversight of Population Science activities. This leader has significant authority and responsibility for the academic and research mission of MCC, which has nationally recognized research programs in Population, Basic, Quantitative, Clinical, and Translational Sciences. - Advance the impact and visibility of Moffitt's Population Science research at the local, state, national and international level.
- Further strengthen and grow exceptional Population Science research programs in Cancer Epidemiology and Health Outcomes & Behavior.
- Expand the Population Science Division research portfolio leveraging extensive institutional infrastructure and division resources.
The ideal candidate will have:
- International reputation in cancer-related Population Science research with an established track record of peer-reviewed extramural research funding.
- Strategic and innovative thinker who identifies research gaps and anticipates research directions and opportunities.
- Exceptional leader and mentor who advances the careers of faculty, trainees and staff.
- Comitted to fostering awareness and support of initiatives to support health equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts throughout the institution.
- Understands and advances catchment area needs through population science research.
Primary responsibilities for the leadership role will include:
- Administrative and Academic Leadership: Oversees two Population Science departments as Division Chief; leads Chairs and Division Administration in a productive, collaborative research environment.
- Scientific Leadership: Oversees two Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) Population Science research programs, working across academic and clinical departments and programs; Partners with other ACDs and scientific leaders to advance transdisciplinary research; Provides guidance and oversight of Shared Resources (Cores) aligned with Population Science; Contributes to CCSG competing and non-competing applications; Mentors Program Leaders, Core Directors, faculty, trainees, and staff.
- Center-wide Leadership: Serves as member of the Research Executive Committee, the Research Institute Steering Committee, the Scientific Leadership Committee, and the Leadership Council; Represents Population Science in oversight and governance venues; Ensures Population Science develops and sustains robust shared initiatives with the Offices of Community Outreach, Engagement & Equity; Research Education & Training; and Research Diversity & Workforce Development.
- Top Tier Research: Maintains active extramurally funded research programs; Publishes original reports in high impact peer-reviewed journals; Provides service to professional societies; Contributes to teaching and mentoring of faculty, staff, fellows, and graduate students.
Credentials and qualifications for eligible candidates include:
- PhD, MD, or other relevant doctoral degree in a cancer related field.
- Mid-Associate to Senior Member/Professor who is an established, extramurally funded cancer researcher.
- 5+ years of leadership experience in a Cancer Center and/or University or Research Institute.
- Demonstrates a commitment to building highly collaborative research teams, culture, and environment.
