About the Position
This posting is not for a specific position with the Edmonds School District. Your application will be placed into an applicant pool for School Psychologists for the 2024-25 school year. When filling positions, the Hiring Administrator may hire directly from this Pool or advertise individual positions. Pool applicants should also apply for individual postings.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Itinerant Support Services, the school psychologist works with students, teachers and families to support students in achieving the fullest potential educational experience from school. The school psychologist accomplishes this by assessing student skills and by planning and providing academic and social emotional interventions.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Leads multi-disciplinary teams in completing evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services.
  • Conducts comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations of students for the purpose of special education eligibility and/or recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to maximize learning and social emotional skills.
  • Employs a strengths-based approach to writing evaluation reports which meet State timelines and District guidelines. Reports are written to be easily understood by teachers and families to better support the student's progress in general education.
  • Conducts counseling activities according to district counseling program requirements and building needs. Activities may include classroom lessons and individual and small group counseling for students who require supplemental support to access and/or make progress in general education.
  • Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff to familiarize stakeholders with psychological services.
  • Serves as a resource and consultant on mental health and conducts in-service programs as requested.
  • Serves as resource to students by providing counseling that will lead each student to increase self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge of current practices in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, by conducting research, and/or by maintaining professional affiliations.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate management of special education evaluation timelines including initial referrals and triennial evaluations.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and families.

  • Additional Duties
    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Itinerant Support Services. The above responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child psychology principles, assessments methods, behavior modification, etc., and current developments in child psychology, knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning profiles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to provide leadership with colleagues regarding areas of expertise and practice.
  • Strong assessment, analytical and diagnostic skills.

  • Required Qualifications:
    Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate as a School Psychologist.

    Salary:
    2024-25 Salary Schedule Range: $80,136 through $143,159. Placement on this salary schedule is determined by FTE and official documentation verifying Educational Level and Certificated Work Experience and will be prorated for less than a full year and/or FTE.

    Benefits:
    Our benefits package includes Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement package for eligible positions.
    • Eligibility for health insurance is based on whether the employee is anticipated to be compensated at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31). For the 2023-24 school year a .5 FTE continuing contract position will meet that eligibility threshold. Eligibility for a non-continuing contract position will be determined at the time of hire by counting the total anticipated compensated hours from the date of hire through the end of the non-continuing contract. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Long-term Disability, Life and AD+D Insurance and options for HSA, FSA and DCAP.
    • Eligibility for retirement is based on whether the employee is anticipated to work at least 70 hours per month for 5 months during the school year. For the 2023-24 school year a .6 FTE (either continuing or non-continuing) meets that eligibility threshold.
