Job Description
The Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine at The University of Alabama at Birmingham announces a full-time, open rank, twelve-month faculty position with corresponding administrative responsibilities within the Division of Nephrology. This position will have a focus on renal research, broadly construed and will incorporate clinical, interdisciplinary teaching, and community activities. Applicants must have MD, DO, MD/PhD and be BC/BE in Pediatrics Nephrology. The ideal candidate will have experience in academic medicine. Successful candidates will be involved in graduate medical education activities through clinical education and research mentorship.
Pediatric Nephrology is located within the UAB Department of Pediatrics at Children's of Alabama. The nephrology team, which includes specialized nurses, nutritionist, social workers, family counselors and faculty, evaluate and treat children with kidney disease from infancy to adolescence. The renal care center is one of the largest comprehensive pediatric dialysis units in the United States offering acute and chronic dialysis therapies. In conjunction with the Division of Transplantation Surgery at UAB, the Division of Nephrology is one of the largest pediatric kidney transplant programs in the country. Multi-center studies focus on mitigation of future cardiovascular risk, reduction of chronic allograft nephropathy and quality improvement in children with kidney transplantation. The research and clinical interest of the division are broad. The division leads multi-center studies on drug neonatal and childhood acute kidney injury, childhood hypertension, drug discovery/ pharmacokinetics, assessment, progression and treatment of chronic kidney disease in children and renal care delivery in low resource settings.
Positions offer competitive salaries along with a comprehensive benefits package. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate and will consist of a guaranteed salary as well as a generous incentive plan linked to productivity.
