Job Description
The University of Alabama School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for an open rank, open tenure faculty appointment in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy. The successful candidate is expected to have an interest in basic or translational Vascular Biology research and to meet clinical and teaching needs in the Department of Surgery and the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy.
The UAB Division of Vascular and Endovascular Therapy treats the full spectrum of arterial and venous disorders, and acts as the tertiary care center for the state of Alabama and surrounding states. We offer both an integrated vascular residency and a two-year vascular fellowship. In addition to our focus on patient care, we also provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System, is the only four-year, public university in the state's largest metropolitan area. The University spans 100 blocks in the city center with over 250 buildings providing over 13 million feet of assignable space.
For fiscal year 2021-2022 (most recent available), the University's economic impact on the Birmingham area exceeds $12.1 billion to the state. In FY2022, UAB received over $715 million in NIH extramural grants and contracts. As of the fall of 2022, the University employed 26,000 people, had a faculty of 3,176 (~45% of whom are female), and had a student enrollment of just under 22,000 at the undergraduate through doctoral levels. The graduate student population is 64% female and 38% are among ethnic minorities.
UAB is comprised of 10 academic colleges and schools in the health sciences and academic areas. The UAB Academic Health Center includes the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Optometry, Public Health, Health Professions; the Graduate School; and the Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences. The University's academic campus consists of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Schools of Business, Education, and Engineering; the Graduate School; and the Mervyn Sterne Library. The university has 136 endowed chairs/professorships.
