Position Purpose
The Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) seeks an Adult Education Course Instructor to conduct hybrid/virtual/in-person ParaPro Training for adult learners. The Instructor will design and instruct adult learners on the role and responsibilities of Paraeducators in a school and teach ParaPro Assessment exam preparation strategies.

Strong candidates will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, strong collaboration skills, and experience working with adult learners. Successful candidates will work to design curriculum, document teaching and learner progress/activities, and provide a safe and optimal learning environment.

Qualifications Profile:
  • Bachelor's Degree and current Connecticut State Certification (#107) is preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience working with adult learners
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Able to serve as a positive, professional role model for adult learners
  • Proficiency in all academic areas
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to pass background check
Essential Functions
  • Responsible for teaching ParaPro Assessment exam training course using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a hybrid/virtual/in-person classroom setting.
  • Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the ParaPro Assessment exam.
  • Responsible for teaching the ParaPro Assessment exam areas: writing, math, and English.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • Knowledge of adult education principles, theories, testing strategies, and curriculum, as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of adult learners.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon learning styles.
  • Experience working in an educational setting with adult learners.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adult learners.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Compensation is $50.00 per hour which includes instruction and planning time.
