FANUC America is currently searching for a Research & Development Engineer in our Fluid Flow and Hardware group to support the development and engineering responsible for the implementation and support of fluid delivery parts and systems used in automotive painting.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Will work in areas of component design, material selection, flow control, atomization of paint and understanding the behavior of these elements as they impact the performance, reliability, and cost of equipment for automotive painting
  • In addition to new product research and development assignments, the engineer will also be assigned to resolve issues with current products and installations
  • Selection and packaging of Fluid control components
  • Develop component and assembly designs in Solidworks
  • Define and implement required analysis for fluid flow problems
  • Troubleshoot and investigate customer issues including hardware problems, color change issues and interdisciplinary problems related to paint applications
  • Review and rationalization of commercial component options for a design.
  • Completion and release of production drawings with a minimum supervision.
  • Design of fluid delivery components and machined parts
  • Development of dimensions and tolerances for new components, including GD&T
  • Resolve comments and concerns raised by assembly technicians and/or suppliers
  • Estimate the duration and labor cost to complete a proposed design to develop schedules
  • Develop and execute validation and performance tests for paint equipment
  • Work in interdepartmental teams to concurrently create new robotic painting systems
  • Develop simple project schedules
  • Create technical procedures and content for product documentation
  • Will interface with other research and development staff, operations, sales, execution, suppliers, and, in some cases, the end customer

Ideal candidate will have the following experience and education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • BS Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or other related Engineering field
  • Mechanical Design experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Basic aptitude for mechanisms and fluid control elements
  • Basic aptitude for reading engineering drawings
  • Willingness to learn Solidworks, Mathcad, and PaintTool
