Position Description & Details

The brand new Dental Pathways Program Administrator at Bismarck State College will have the exciting opportunity to lead the way as BSC stands up its premier Dental Pathways program. This position will have the ability to ensure our new program receives accreditation and is ready to serve our students and the community. The successful candidate will advocate for student success in the Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, and Career Exploration Programs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Serves as an effective advocate for students and promotes student success.
  • The administration, management, organization, and supervision of the educational program, to include relevant program accreditation (ex. Commission on Dental Accreditation).
  • The continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program.
  • Provides academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development.
  • Provides long-range planning and ongoing development of the program through Academic Discipline Review.
  • Responsible for recruiting, retaining, and mentoring students to support their academic goals and enrollment goals.
  • Creates innovation through cooperative involvement with K-12, advisory committees/Business, and Industry Leadership Teams (BILT), and other public-private partnerships.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, orientation, and training of field internship supervisors.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, orientation, and training of full-time and adjunct faculty for the program.
  • Coordination and documentation of student field internship education experiences.
  • Oversees the curriculum instruction of the Dental Pathway programs
  • Responsible for preventative and comprehensive dentistry and educates the patient in proper tooth and periodontal care


DUTIES:
  • Provide for the operation, supervision, evaluation and revision of the Dental Pathway programs
    • Oversees the development of faculty schedules and clinical placements
    • Work with assistant dean on the evaluation of faculty including analysis of results
    • Ensures faculty development plans are consistent for the support of students within the Dental Pathway programs
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure facilities meet the needs of students within the Dental Pathway programs
    • Collaborate with assistant dean and dean in the review and completion of budget documents
    • Coordinate Dental Pathway programs' admission process and promotion of students across program levels
  • Clinical including but not limited to:
    • Examine patients and medical records
    • Prepare patients for treatment (e.g. by applying oral sedation or anesthesia)
    • Check teeth, gums and other parts of the mouth, along with X-rays and tests, to diagnose dental problems
    • Clean teeth and remove plaque
    • Identify tooth decay and replace cavities with fillings
    • Design and fit dental prosthetics, such as bridges, crowns and dentures
    • Apply teeth-whitening treatments
    • Conduct tooth extractions and root canal procedures
    • Perform surgeries on diseased tissues and bones
    • Prescribe medication as needed
    • Educate patients on proper brushing techniques, flossing and fluoride use
    • Promote good oral health and preventive dental care (e.g. by scheduling regular check-ups)
  • Student Success: Develop and maintain an academic program-wide focus supporting student success outcomes, student engagement, retention, completion, and graduation rate.
  • Program Faculty Support:
    • Collaborating with the assistant dean and responsible for the management of full-time and adjunct faculty in the assigned program.
    • Recruitment and hiring. Oversees in collaboration with the assistant dean for the following:
      • Initiates new position requests, vacancy requests, and advertising for approved positions
      • Recruits and hires adjunct faculty
      • Participates in search committees
    • Mentoring and Development.:
      • Ensures that new faculty and adjunct faculty receive focused and effective mentoring that addresses expectations for teaching, scholarship, applied research, and service.
      • Ensures effective individual faculty development plans driving continuous quality improvement are designed, developed, and implemented for all full-time and adjunct faculty.
    • Evaluation. Oversees in collaboration with the assistant dean for the following:
      • Ensures that faculty and adjunct faculty are evaluated according to established policies and procedures
      • Supervises, documents, and reports faculty evaluations.
      • Performance Improvement Plans: to create, supervise, approve, document, and report progress on faculty performance improvement plans.
  • Innovation: Promotes innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, and effectiveness of the program.
  • Other duties as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises faculty positions within the program
  • Supervises multiple adjunct positions.


Minimum Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental of Medicine in Dentistry or a related field
  • Graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • A demonstrated potential for leadership
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at BSC
  • Working knowledge of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, electronic calendar, and e-mail, etc.).
  • Interpersonal skills, relates well with students, staff, patients, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Exhibits excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess and retain a valid North Dakota license.
  • Travel required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior administrative or program leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience of college-level teaching.
