Position Summary
Under the direction of the Oncology Service Line (OSL) Leadership, the Director of Quality oversees and coordinates all aspects of quality improvement initiatives across the oncology care continuum. This key role ensures that the quality of cancer care exceeds recognized national and institutional standards and benchmarks. The Director collaborates closely with key stakeholders to enhance and optimize UI Health Oncology programs, including Integrated Practice Unit (IPU) Physician Leaders, Clinic Directors, Clinical Medical Directors, Senior Hospital and Cancer Center Leaders.

Position Summary

The Director collaborates closely with key stakeholders to enhance and optimize UI Health Oncology programs, including Integrated Practice Unit (IPU) Physician Leaders, Clinic Directors, Clinical Medical Directors, Senior Hospital and Cancer Center Leaders.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the analysis of current clinical practices, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to implement and evaluate quality improvement changes.
- Partner with OSL Medical Director, Senior Director of Administration and Clinical Operations, and IPU Physician Leaders to joint initiatives across UI Health, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient oncology services.
- Coordinate and execute quality improvement activities within the Oncology IPU for all individual tumor sites (e.g. breast, prostate, lung, colorectal, head & neck, genitourinary, etc.) using Quality and Safety Transformation (QST) principles to ensure exceptional outcomes and patient experience.
- Work with clinical and operational leaders to implement prioritized operational and performance improvement initiatives defined by the OSL Medical Director and Senior Director of Administration and Clinical Operations.
- Collaborate with IPU Physician Leaders and teams to design and implement sustainable improvements, focusing on effective change management practices.
- Oversee accreditation functions and ensure compliance with standards set by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC), the ACS National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and other relevant accreditations.
- Assist in monitoring and managing OSL Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and coordinating with UIH IT to obtain timely and accurate data for KPI reporting and tracking of the KPI Dashboard.
- Perform data collection and reporting of quality improvement initiatives, executing evidence-based approaches to enhance patient safety and quality of care.
- Collaborates with OSL Strategic Project Manager to support evidence-based project management approaches and operational improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a resource for education and training on quality improvement methodologies, accreditation standards, internal process improvements, and external regulatory requirements (e.g. TJC, CMS, QOPI, etc.).
- Provide training for certified and non-certified staff who perform case finding, abstracting, and follow-up using approved NCRA cancer coding principles for CoC accreditation standards.
- Serves as the system administrator for OSL Tumor Registry ERS, including responsibility for State reporting. Collaborate with UIH IT and OSL Leadership to provide cancer registry data for linkage to the tumor registry database and other clinical and administrative information systems.
- Recruits, hires, and supervises staff, including ongoing coaching, development, and performance management.
- Manages expenses and budget for the OSL Tumor Registry unit.
- Assumes responsibility for ad hoc or other special projects delegated by the OSL Medical Director.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public Health, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with the standards and survey process of an organization that includes accreditation.
- Minimum of 3 years of Quality Improvement (QI) work experience in a healthcare delivery setting is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful managerial or supervisory leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and data analytic skills. Must be able to present data, plans, ideas, and information in an effective, organized, and compelling manner in a variety of settings to diverse audiences.
- Ability to cultivate relationships, rapport, credibility, and partnerships across all levels of internal and external customers.
- Ability to be flexible, approachable, and inspire trust.
- Exercise good judgment, and demonstrate effective critical thinking skills.
