POSITION SUMMARY:
The Platform team is seeking a Senior Scientist to lead development of sequencing assays for RNA from FFPE tissue. The Senior Scientist will join a tight-knit and cross-functional team of scientists and engineers who are tasked with developing a scalable and robust platform upon which the next generation of Natera clinical assays will be based. The Senior Scientist will work cross-functionally with assay development scientists, automation engineers, and computational biologists. We are looking for a meticulous and dedicated molecular biologist with proven success in developing FFPE RNA sequencing assays that can work effectively in a cross-functional and fast-paced environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and validate high-throughput FFPE RNA-sequencing assays from extraction to sequencing.
- Design and coordinate execution of complex studies, analyze and interpret data, plan next steps, and communicate findings to both scientists and broad audiences.
- Collaborate with bioinformaticians, computational biologists, and software engineers to develop analysis pipelines.
- Collaborate with automation engineers to scale and robustify assays.
- Collaborate with laboratory directors, clinical lab scientists, and quality engineers to deploy clinical assays
- Mentor and lead junior scientists and team members
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30 days of hire.
- Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate in molecular biology, biochemistry, or closely related field with a minimum of 2 years experience in assay development for the life science industry
- Master's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or closely related field with a minimum of 6 years experience in assay development for the life science industry
- Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or closely related field with a minimum of 8 years experience in assay development for the life science industry
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proven track record of launching clinical FFPE RNA-sequencing-based clinical assays
- Demonstrated success with cross-functional collaborations
- Familiarity with laboratory automation and building assays with scale and automation in mind
- Must be capable of independently planning and executing complex studies, interpreting results, and making data-driven decisions
- Must have experience in optimizing laboratory processes, identifying risks, and troubleshooting issues
- Must have good organization and time management skills
- Must have experience performing statistical analyses in Excel or similar software. Coding proficiency is a plus
- Must be familiar with bioinformatics software commonly used in RNA-sequencing analysis (STAR, samtools, DESeq2, etc.)
- Must have experience working in a regulated laboratory environment
