The Opportunity:

Canadian Natural has an exciting new opportunity for a Materials & Corrosion Engineer - Asset Integrity, Horizon Upgrading to join our Horizon Asset Integrity team. With 15 years of successful operations, the Horizon Upgrader is a keystone of Canadian Natural's Asset portfolio, producing 280,000 bbls/day of synthetic crude oil. Reporting to the Asset Integrity Manager, the Materials & Corrosion Engineer - Asset Integrity, Horizon Upgrading will be an essential source of expertise, providing professional guidance and support to advise our Operations team on the full life cycle of all fixed plant equipment.   • Job location: Horizon Oil Sands - Fort McMurray, Alberta.
    • Company sponsored fly-in/fly-out and camp facilities with flights from Calgary or Edmonton
  • Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day, Monday - Thursday

Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide expert-level support and mentorship to using risk-based methodology to address integrity related threats and technically complex issues
  • Assist asset integrity inspectors and engineers as needed on analyzing collected data from inspection events, Risk Based Inspection (RBI) reassessments and revalidations, turnaround work scope challenges, repairs and analyses
  • Provide technical input, short and long terms mitigation actions regarding potential damage mechanisms in units production increase HAZOP and MOC's
  • Support unit inspectors and engineers in to develop and review complex repair plans for complex equipment
  • Participates in and supports unit-specific activities such as FFS assessments, 5-Why Investigations, and RCA's and help to determine root causes of failures related to corrosion and materials
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to produce the required materials, coating and cathodic protection specifications
  • Evaluate and approve the material selection, coating, insulations and refractory procedures, based on national/international code and standards and governing documents, for piping, equipment and structural components

What You Bring to the Role:
  • Post-secondary education in engineering, preferably with a materials and/or corrosion specialization, and registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer
  • Minimum 20 years of oil industry experience with metallurgical design of oil and gas production plants, refineries and/or chemical plants
  • Strong knowledge of jurisdictional and industry related codes, standards and recommended practices applicable to damage mechanisms, corrosion control, RBI, fixed equipment, piping, tanks and welding
