APEL Extrusions is an independent extruder, finisher and fabricator of aluminum extrusions serving the commercial, residential, and industrial markets of Western Canada and the Western United States. With facilities in Calgary Canada, Coburg Oregon, and a new, greenfield facility in Phoenix Arizona, APEL Extrusions is a fully integrated extruder with six extrusion presses, (2 in Calgary and 3 in Oregon and 1 in Phoenix) and a full array of finishing capabilities occupying over 600,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space employing approximately 300 people.

APEL Extrusions has an immediate requirement for a qualified Operations Manager in its new Phoenix, Arizona facility.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager has direct responsibility to safely lead and to manage operational aspects of the new Phoenix facility including extrusion, anodize, paint, production control, fabrication, packing and shipping. With responsibility of various areas in the manufacturing facility, this position is considered second in command and ensures all workers are safe and productive in manufacturing quality products on time and on budget.

Nature and Scope:
  • Provide leadership and coordinate strategic business initiatives required to drive process improvement throughout the manufacturing operations in pursuit of operational excellence.
  • Work with the Corporate Technical Group, Departmental Managers and the Company's Management Team to ensure production is conducted safely, on time, and on budget.
  • Stay current on changes in technology and equipment within the extrusion industry and contribute to the development of business strategies to keep APEL growing and profitable.
  • Ensure APEL remains compliant in all OHSA, Environmental and compliance related issues.
  • Focus on productivity, order fulfillment, schedule adherence, process control, process stability and inventory management to ensure the highest level of service to APEL customers.

  • General duties are to:
  • Monitor all operations for safety, environmental, and housekeeping concerns and ensure action is taken to protect the health and welfare of our employees and our environment.
  • Engage the workforce in problem solving initiatives and ensure the disciplined execution of manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Identify equipment and operating problems and implement plans to increase productivity.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for Operations ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity are monitored and improved as required.
  • Assist in developing APEL's technical and operating capabilities through a suitably developed and administered training and development program.
  • Ensure that all elements of APEL's Quality Management System are being followed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • From a professional experience perspective, the ideal Candidate will have:
  • A proven record of senior management success in a fast paced, customer focused, manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in successfully developing strong teams and strong relationships with internal stake holders, suppliers, customers, and other key business partners.
  • Experience in strategic planning and optimization of resources.
  • Experience in managing safety, quality, productivity, and cost in a capital-intensive operation.
  • Experience and training in Lean and Six Sigma concepts.
  • Proven ability to Lead, to Collaborate and to Execute.

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or other relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years managerial experience in a manufacturing / plant environment.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA / MS advanced degree
  • Experienced in extrusion and extrusion finishing processes.
