Project Overview:
Applications Systems Administrator assists with the CiSTAR and BRICS application management and associated systems, facilitates operations for software updates, deployments, maintenance, data backups and proactively engages in the creation of documentation for existing and new resources. Responsible for working closely with the NINDS intramural infrastructure team and associated collaborators for the provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructures.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with various NINDS IT support teams to ensure continued operating efficiency and stability, ensuring the security and integrity of all systems and data, maximum domain uptime and email server access, and respond to outages and other issues.
2. Perform daily system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, domains, email server, systems and key processes.
3. Provide primary support to the CiSTAR and BRICS platform for the NINDS intramural IT program.
4. Match information functionality with NINDS business, clinical, basic science and translational research processes.
5. Play a leading role in effectively utilizing information capacities to support multidisciplinary NINDS translational clinical trials and research.
6. Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
7. Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
8. Work with various NIH support teams to identify issues, implement solutions or deploy system updates.
9. Perform daily backup operations and ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
10. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary. Research and implement new systems as necessary.
11. Create and maintain IT documentation for new and existing resources. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
12. Work closely with software development teams to debug, fix issues and deploy code fixes and updates.
13. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
14. Work closely with the NINDS infrastructure teams to manage the Information Technology hardware to ensure that performance meets necessary requirements.
15. Monitor information management systems and establish standard operating procedures for quality control.
16. Investigate and troubleshoot issues to solve complex problems and have the ability to iterate on intricate solutions and ideas.
17. Contribute to T&T proposal activities and all other duties as assigned by T&T managers.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Have a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, with relevant certifications (e.g., RedHat, ext.).
2. Have 2-3 years' experience in server systems management, set up and monitoring.
3. Have knowledge and experience with IT automation tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, etc.
4. Have experience with server operating systems installation, configuration and hardening.
5. Have knowledge and experience with database software installation and updating.
6. Have strong attention to detail and time management skills.
7. Be dependable to meet tight deadline and can work independently.
8. Work well across multiple teams and can sit for prolonged periods of time at a computer and/or desk, and move between buildings within the Bethesda, MD campus.
