Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing is a clinical expert in hospice care and is an active participant in patient care as well the leader of the care team. The Director of Nursing is responsible for assuring compliance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that are required and directed to ensure the highest quality of care for the patients.

Position Summary:

The Director of Nursing is responsible for assuring compliance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that are required and directed to ensure the highest quality of care for the patients.
Core Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, directs, organizes, implements, and evaluates clinical services and activities.
- Leads and participates as an active member in the IDT meetings.
- Ensures that efficient systems, procedures, and controls are established for all clinical operations.
- Works closely with the Medical Director to plan and implement policies and procedures relative to clinical operations and set standards for all performance objectives.
- Assures that adequate staffing levels are anticipated and maintained.
- Participates in the identification of the need for, and assists in the coordination of, the development of new hospice programs and services.
- Assures effective coordination between clinical staff and clerical staff so that paperwork necessary for payroll and billing is submitted accurately and according to established time frames.
- Responds to all inquiries and referrals to the Hospice.
- Determines staff assignments and assigns Hospice patients to the appropriate staff.
- Coordinates patient care by all service disciplines providing care. Provides patient care as needed.
- Functions as a liaison between all disciplines providing care.
- Provides direct supervision of the staff nurse providing the hospice care and assists the staff nurse in carrying out the role of the case manager.
- Collaborates with inpatient staff to assure the implementation of the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care during inpatient stays.
- May convene patient care conferences to assure effective provision and coordination of care.
- Promotes the utilization of all available resources for the benefit of patients, families, and Team members.
- Educates clinical personnel regarding Hospice admission criteria, policies and procedures, patient care and Hospice philosophy. Ensures that all individuals with direct patient contact are educated in the Hospice philosophy.
- Promotes public awareness of the services provided by the Hospice and the means to access these services through community education and/or marketing activities.
- Is responsible for the Hospice creation, maintenance and protection of accurate and compliant clinical records.
- Is responsible for the implementation of the Hospice professional and clinical services Quality Assessment Performance Improvement program.
- Assures that services provided are compliant with regulatory agency requirements, and maintains the organization in a state of regulatory readiness.
- Participates in service related activities within the organization and the community.
- Identifies need for staff and inpatient staff education and assists in the development of in- service programs for the Interdisciplinary Group.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must hold a current State of Michigan RN License
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred, Master's Degree in Nursing highly desirable.
- Two years leadership/charge/supervisory experience in a hospice setting required; three to five years preferred
- Must be able to read, write and understand the English language
