Plant Controller

The Plant Controller is responsible for leading the Terre Haute business planning process and in partnering with our Varennes, Canada and Newark, DE sites. He or she will help ensure the business planning process is complete, accurate and published on-time for North America. Additional responsibilities will include; preparing month-end closings, financial forecasts, and consolidations; providing financial advice to manufacturing through the study of financial data; meeting corporate reporting requirements of the division; managing, training, and evaluating accounting personnel; ensuring accuracy of physical inventory; and controlling the flow of raw materials, tools, and other assets in the manufacturing department.

This position requires the ability to analyze and interpret complex financial and operational data, lead efforts to identify cost reduction and productivity recommendations by partnering with the plant leadership team and other functional areas.

The Plant Controller must also have the interpersonal skills to successfully lead a team and collaborate with others to implement recommendations and drive change initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides detailed analysis of monthly cost results in comparison to Business Plan/Forecast.
  • Provides support for global initiatives to harmonize manufacturing cost reporting and analysis.
  • Ensures financial controls with respect to manufacturing costs/inventory are in place and are adhered to.
  • Interacts with cross functional teams at both the plant and corporate levels to identify and implement business improvements.
  • Propose/implement improvements to manufacturing cost reporting.
  • Leads and directs the activities of plant accounting to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, and annual budgets, monthly and quarterly forecasts.
  • Selects, develops, supervises, appraises, and motivates subordinate employees to provide an effective departmental work force.
  • Provides back-up support for subordinate positions and ensures proper cross training to meet departmental demands.
  • Manages the monthly closing and ensures monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts are performed and are accurately stated and classified in accordance with US GAAP standards.
  • Provides thoughtful analytical metrics and identifies areas of focus for cost saving.
  • Analyzes overhead, cost of sales and actual manufacturing costs compared to budget, forecast and prior periods.
  • Prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs, and reports factors affecting prices and profitability of products.
  • Oversees the sites physical inventories/year-end audit process.
  • Provides input to establish or standardize our costing model for quoting new business.
  • Responsibility for ensuring plant fixed assets and repairs is appropriately accounted for, including preparation of review of capital expenditure requests.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity of all systems, assets, processes, and data, and enhance the Company's value.
  • Proactively identifies manufacturing cost trends that impact the business and financial results.
  • Works closely with the Director of Operations to produce accurate and timely financial analysis.
  • Interface with external auditors, as required, providing them with a clear understanding of the financial position of the division.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports as requested or required.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, Masters preferred, with a minimum of 7 years' of solid experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have prior SAP experience
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to interface effectively with all levels of management at both the plants and corporate levels
  • Strong technical accounting and analytical skills with an emphasis on cost/inventory accounting
  • Strong management skills within multi-site environment
  • Proven aptitude to deliver effective financial/cost reporting and analysis utilizing SAP and Hyperion Essbase
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, lead process improvement teams and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Expected to work in a team environment
  • Individual must have experience with and be able to appropriately handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Must maintain a high energy level and the ability to handle and manage stressful situations
