Description:

The Food Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of food safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices. This role involves leading efforts to maintain the highest levels of food safety across all stages of food handling, from sourcing to production and distribution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain food safety and sanitation programs, including HACCP, GMP, and FSMA requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations and standards (FDA, USDA, etc.).
  • Conduct regular food safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of facilities and processes.
  • Monitor and update food safety policies, ensuring alignment with current legislation and industry standards.
  • Investigate and resolve any food safety-related issues, including customer complaints, recalls, and non-conformances.
  • Train and educate staff on food safety practices and procedures, promoting a culture of safety and hygiene.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., production, quality, R&D) to ensure that food safety is prioritized at every step of the supply chain.
  • Manage and maintain food safety documentation, records, and certifications.
  • Prepare for and manage third-party audits (e.g., SQF, BRC) and certifications related to food safety.
  • Stay current with new food safety regulations, technologies, and industry trends.
  • Develop and oversee sanitation schedules and pest control programs.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections or in the event of a food safety crisis.


Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in food safety management, preferably in the food production or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, including FSMA, HACCP, GMP, and relevant local/state/federal laws.
  • Certification in food safety programs (e.g., HACCP, SQF, ServSafe, PCQI) preferred.
  • Experience with food safety audits and inspections.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and food safety management software.
