Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Analyst to join our team and support a project for the Department of the Interior (DOI). In this role, you will play a critical role in data governance and management by leveraging your expertise to digest and analyze data, create a common schema, and ensure overall data integrity and consistency. Your work will contribute to DOI's data-driven decision-making processes and support the successful implementation of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of complex datasets, identifying patterns, trends, and anomalies to extract meaningful insights and support decision-making.
Data Governance: Develop and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across the project.
Data Modeling: Design and develop a common data schema to facilitate seamless integration, data sharing, and interoperability between various systems and databases within DOI.
Data Mapping and Transformation: Map data elements from multiple sources to the common schema, ensuring accurate data mapping and transformation processes.
Data Cleansing and Validation: Identify and resolve data quality issues, perform data cleansing activities, and implement validation checks to maintain high-quality data.
Data Documentation: Document data structures, data flows, and data dictionaries to provide clear and comprehensive documentation for reference and future use.
Data Visualization: Create visually appealing and informative data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to communicate insights and findings to stakeholders.
Collaborative Partnerships: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, developers, and stakeholders, to understand data requirements and ensure alignment with project objectives.
Data Privacy and Security: Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and implement appropriate security measures to protect sensitive data.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with emerging data analysis tools, techniques, and industry best practices to continuously enhance data analysis processes and drive innovation.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience as a Data Analyst, Data Scientist, or similar role, with a focus on data analysis, data modeling, and data governance.
Proficiency in data analysis techniques, statistical methods, and data visualization tools.
Strong knowledge of data governance principles and practices, including data quality, metadata management, and data lineage.
Experience in creating and managing data schemas, data dictionaries, and data mapping documentation.
Familiarity with data cleansing techniques and tools, and ability to identify and resolve data quality issues.
Proficiency in SQL and data querying languages.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and best practices for data security.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to handle complex data sets.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Experience in the government sector or large organizations is a plus.
