Job Purpose:
The Manager of Inpatient Nursing (ACU/ICU) reports to the Inpatient Director of ACU/ICU). The Manager of Inpatient Nursing is responsible for the oversight, planning, direction and coordination of services of the ACU and ICU.
Responsibilities include staffing, training, performance management, compliance and fiscal management of departmental assets, and implementing and evaluating quality improvement plans.

The work of this position is performed inside, exposing the employee to indoor environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common a health care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop and stretch. The employee will need full range of body motion, including handling and lifting of patients, should have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment. Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports are required; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. - Assists Director in Implementing Quality strategies and tactics to reach the annual organizational and department goals.
- Screens, interviews and hires staff as needed.
- Facilitates completion of the orientation process for new staff members.
- Develops staffing plan and reviews frequently to assure appropriate at Director's request.
- Assists Director with Rounds on new staff members evaluating the onboarding process, staff fit and making necessary adjustments to individual and overall orientation plans.
- Assists with establishing and maintaining department specific onboarding process including departmental orientation checklist, competency evaluations and collaborating with Nurse Educator, preceptors and Clinical programs coordinator for various educational needs.
- Assists the Director to provide an excellent patient experience for all patients by implementing and enforcing initiatives, projects, programs and standards.
- Utilizes the Shared Governance concept of nursing practice and decision-making in the department/s in collaboration with the Director.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and enforces regulatory compliance with accrediting and licensing bodies such as DNV and the State Department of Health, along with hospital and patient care policies, procedures and standards.
- Educates and coaches staff members with regard to department expectations and opportunities for improvement under the direction of the Director.
Manages daily operations of the department as delegated by the Director:
- Creates and maintains staff schedules within productivity standards, budget and patient needs.
- Serves as a resource, consultant with the Charge Nurse for daily scheduling, staffing needs and manages productivity.
- Assists with direct patient care and charge nurse responsibilities as needed in emergent
- Monitors the department for tidiness and comfort and ensures daily tasks are completed.
- Works to ensure that needed supplies and equipment are available, and orders essential supplies and equipment as needed.

Requirements:
- Previous supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
- Registered Nurse (RN) degree required from an accredited program.
- Must maintain a current WA Registered Nurse license.
- Completion of BSN degree strongly preferred.
- Advanced certification in Medical/Surgical or ICU care encouraged.
