The College of Engineering has an exciting opening for a Front-End Web Developer. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Front-End Web Developer builds and maintains websites, themes, templates and applications for the College of Engineering. This role utilizes cutting-edge methodologies and innovative approaches to enhance user interface design and construction while ensuring design excellence and modern, well-informed code. The Front-End Web Developer partners across teams to build replicable interactivity and functionality throughout a Drupal multisite ecosystem in service of expanding the College's website ecosystem and support strategic priorities and initiatives.

As a member of the College's Marketing and Communications team, the Front-End Web Developer is critical to ensuring that the College's web presence supports the College and University's goals and objectives. Also serving on the College's Computing Services Web Development team, this role will work to ensure alignment with the team's established best practices and coding standards and maintain the integrity and reliability of its infrastructure. This role will also partner with marketing and communications leaders, user experience practitioners, website managers and others across campus.

What You Will Do:
Create the architecture and infrastructure needed to expand the College's website ecosystem. Collaborate with teams across the College of Engineering, and secure feedback and recommendations to ensure the website reflects the depth and diversity of the College.
Work with College leadership and communications colleagues build new websites, templates and design elements for key strategic priorities and initiatives, such as research centers, interdisciplinary institutes and other multi-department programs.
Oversee proper integration into existing deployment processes and ensure contributions align with the College's strategic goals and platform requirements.
Create and maintain a roadmap of projects, enhancements and releases for the College's main websites.
Design, implement and support new features to improve web content display for strategic College initiatives including recruitment, fundraising and other revenue-generating projects, prioritizing accessibility and content management best practices.
Lead website re-design projects.
Ensure landing pages for high-priority and strategic initiatives are dynamic, modern, visually engaging and accessible to all users.
Design and build custom modules for use across all Drupal websites.
Identify existing and evolving technologies to use when upgrading the websites' design and information architecture.
Own the College's Design System , including designing, building and deploying new modules and templates.
Maintain online style guides and documentation to support best practices in web content creation. Assist in training Drupal power users on best practices for using themes and elements.
Advocate for accessibility; lead audits and apply design and implementation best practices.
Help troubleshoot and prioritize issues related to front-end development.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, computer science, programming, web development, human-computer interaction, web design or related field AND 3 years of experience in a front-end development role.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:
A strong portfolio of sites that you personally developed.
Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript and familiarity with the latest web techniques, technologies, languages and libraries.
Familiarity with WordPress, Drupal or other similar content management systems.
Working knowledge of LESS, SASS, or other CSS pre-processors.
Working knowledge of WCAG standards and demonstrated ability to apply enhancements for accessibility.
Expert knowledge in high-performance and in-browser graphics such as CSS animations, WebGL, SVG animations, etc.
Strong working knowledge of responsive web design and cross-platform compatible coding techniques and troubleshooting.
Strong understanding of UX standards and/or Universal Design.
Working knowledge of content management systems, including theming.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
Must be able to work successfully in a team environment as well as independently.
Must be comfortable using productivity tools such as Asana, Jira, Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite.
Ability to communicate through a variety of technology tools such as Slack, MS Teams, Zoom and Google Meet.
