Position Summary

Provides opportunities for research, teaching, and/or administrative practice in a well-established public health graduate school infrastructure. Leadership of the NIOSH-funded GLC-OHS entails guiding the $8 million dollar training, research and outreach programs to meet its strategic plan, overseeing all budgeting and reporting, and integrating the center's activities into EOHS. The position is a 30% appointment covered by the NIOSH-funded grant, which allows for 70% FTE to pursue clinical and/or teaching activities. There are multiple opportunities for teaching courses in the EOHS Division, each reimbursed separately. Occupational Medicine physicians may choose to pursue clinical work as part of the Occupational Health and Safety Institute in UI Health with its clinic in University Health Services. Multiple opportunities exist in the division for self-directed research or collaboration with faculty in the various divisions in the School of Public Health.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead the Great Lakes Center for Occupational Safety and Health (GLC-OHS)/Illinois ERC as the Principal Investigator.

  • The Division of Environmental and Occupational HealthSciences (EOHS) in the School of Public Health at the University of IllinoisChicago (UIC) invites applications for a non-tenure track position at theclinical or research associate professor or full professor level to lead the GreatLakes Center for Occupational Safety and Health (GLC-OHS)/Illinois ERC as thePrincipal Investigator. This non-tenure track position provides opportunitiesfor research, teaching, and/or administrative practice in a well-establishedpublic health graduate school infrastructure. Leadership of the NIOSH-fundedGLC-OHS entails guiding the $8 million dollar training, research and outreachprograms to meet its strategic plan, overseeing all budgeting and reporting,and integrating the center's activities into EOHS. The GLC-OHS is comprised often programs, with funding for trainee stipends and tuition, faculty salary,pilot research, and continuing education and outreach programming. Each of theten programs is led by a faculty member, and in addition to the academic graduatedegree programs in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, occupationalmedicine, occupational and environmental epidemiology, and agricultural safetyand health, the GLC-OHS also supports a pilot projects funding mechanism, a CEprogram, an Outreach program, a Targeted Research Training program and aPlanning and Evaluation core. The PI is supported by a full-time programcoordinator and a Director of Planning and Evaluation.

    The position is supported by a NIOSH-funded grant.Additional clinical, research, and/or teaching activities are available. Thereare multiple opportunities for teaching courses in the EOHS Division, each compensatedseparately.     Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications
    • A doctoral degree in public health, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, occupational medicine (with board certification) or related public health discipline.
    • Professional practice and research experience including leadership roles.
    • Experience teaching or training in an academic environment.
