Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to manage the daily operations of the Department of Public Works Divisions in all aspects of field work and project management. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates field work activities of the Public Works departments.
  • Identifies and implements processes and procedures for operational control.
  • Identifies any work processes for improvements.
  • Generates daily, routine and special reports.
  • Addresses and corrects issues as they arise.
  • Assists in coordinating the proper retention and storage of all documents that pass through the Public Works office.
  • Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, as appropriate to provide employees with the tools to be efficient in the workplace; explains regulations, policies, or procedures.
  • Assists the Director and Deputy Director with daily work activities; provides input on projects and updates on issues that may arise.
  • Demonstrates professional customer service to external as well as internal customers, answers questions.
  • Serves as a liaison with other department and state agencies.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires Bachelor's degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in business, liberal arts, or any field other than engineering or the hard sciences.
  • Over four years and up to and including eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
