Nominated by the President, and appointed by the Board, the Dean of Nursing plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic and student experience at FNU. This dynamic leader is dedicated to supporting students and fostering an inclusive and enriching learning environment. To enhance our student-centered approach, the Dean of Nursing will work in close partnership with the Dean of Inclusive Excellence and Student Success. By providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for faculty and all academic nursing programs, the Dean of Nursing ensures FNU's continued educational excellence. This role encompasses the development and implementation of academic policies, while also championing the professional growth of faculty and staff, and attracting top talent. Additionally, the Dean of Nursing nurtures strong relationships with community and healthcare organizations. To fully engage with and on behalf of the university, the Dean of Nursing will reside within a 50-mile radius of the Versailles campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates a culture that fosters innovation and excellence in education and scholarship and a commitment to service.
- Establishes and revises intermediate and long-range plans for the FNU academic nursing programs that support the University's philosophy and objectives in consultation with the President and with members of the academic leadership team.
- Consults with the Vice-President for Finance and the Chief Operations Officer regarding development of the budget for the academic programs
- Maintains a formal means of accountability for FNU faculty and associated staff.
- Represents the FNU at professional and legislative meetings regarding the activities of the FNU as well as regarding legislative developments that will affect the provision of all academic nursing programs.
- Responsible for providing academic leadership for all nursing programs
- Delegates administrative responsibilities to appropriate members of the administrative team, staff, and faculty.
- Facilitates the further development of faculty governance.
- Maintains professional affiliations to enhance professional growth, provides leadership, and remains current with the latest trends in advanced nursing and midwifery practice and advanced nursing and midwifery practice education.
- Provides leadership for and encourages Associate Deans, faculty, and staff to obtain outside funding for activities that are consistent with the philosophy and strategic plan of the University.
- Promotes an environment that encourages, facilitates, and sustains scholarship.
- Participates in scholarly work.
- Calls meetings of the faculty at scheduled periods throughout the year.
- Serves as ex-officio member of appropriate University committees
- In consultation with the academic leadership team, responsible for academic appointments and promotions of all faculty
- In collaboration with academic administrators, responsible for accreditation of all programs
- Responsible for providing leadership for policies regarding student admission and progression
- Serves as the formal liaison between the academic program and the larger University.

Education and Experience:
- National certification as a nurse-midwife or a nurse practitioner
- Licensure by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (RN and APRN) within 30 days of appointment
- Doctoral degree in nursing
- A combined minimum of 10 years experience in teaching, academic administration, and clinical practice to meet the requirements
- Experience as a Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean, Director, or Chair is highly preferred.
