Summary:

The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for mechanical design and development, project management, and project team management. He or she designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design systems and products the company requires. May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products.

It requires a minimum bachelor's degree in engineering and appropriate experience level in the field or in a related area. Must have practical experience in the dynamics of rotating systems. Advanced degrees (MS and PhD) are desirable and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis as years of experience in a related area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mechanical system concepts and analysis
  • Project planning, tracking and prioritization
  • Primary design of mechanical, hydraulic and rotating components as part of a complete solution
  • Participate in the modelling, simulation, testing, and analysis of the system and components
  • Review, develop, and comment on technical documentation (requirements, CAD files, test plans/reports, technical reviews, engineering change documents)
  • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings of new designs
  • Provide technical support to the vendor base and participate in vendor selection and meetings as necessary
  • Develop testing requirements and participate in testing as necessary to ensure compliance
  • Development of independent analytical models and analysis tools
  • Assist in the development of technical proposals and cost estimates in support of new business


Required Skills:
  • Strong mechanical / electro-mechanical background and design skills with a background in innovation and experience across the board in the design of systems
  • System design, integration and layout of mechanical assemblies, sensors, electronics, harnesses, and other parts including experience with various system modules
  • Educational background and practical experience in kinematics and dynamics of rotating systems.
  • Ability to create, evaluate and correct engineering drawings including tolerances, use of geometric tolerances and evaluation of stack-ups
  • Ability to perform stress, and strain analysis and the understanding of material property with the ability to appropriately select materials appropriate for applications.
  • Additional Technical Design Skills: Gear set / CVT understanding, Bearing selection/design, Hydraulics / fluid lubrication, Thermal analysis
  • Strong proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD program and MS Office
  • Analysis experience including working knowledge of: Finite Element Analysis, FMEA, RCA experience, fatigue knowledge
  • Solid understanding of the verification and validation process including test plan development, system evaluation, data collection and analysis
  • Experience in DFm & DFx with quality, reliability, manufacturability, and maintainability design considerations.
  • Appropriate interpersonal style to work effectively with all other Team members in a dynamic and enjoyable work environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
