GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Attorney General's Office seeks a qualified attorney interested in servicing as an attorney in the Water & Natural Resources Division and represent the State of Wyoming and the Department of Environmental Quality in litigation, enforcement, and day-to-day legal matters. This position will primarily, but not exclusively, represent the Water Quality Division of the Department of Environmental Quality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Represent the State of Wyoming in state and federal court with primary responsibility for the Department's implementation of the Clean Water Act and enforcement of related state laws.
  • Review draft legislation to advise the Governor and clients; compose formal and informal legal opinions on questions submitted by agency clients; advise agency clients concerning relevant statutes and administrative procedure; make strategic decisions on cases and manage workflow on cases in consultation with office leadership.
  • Prepare and present contested cases on behalf of the Department of Environmental Quality before the Environmental Quality Council, including permit appeals, appeals of agency orders, as well as referrals to the Attorney General.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

To the extent that you are already familiar with environmental law and civil litigation, administrative law, or some of the unique challenges that arise when representing a government agency, we want you to apply.
