Reports to: Director, Revenue Reconciliation

Purpose:

The Medical Billing and Collections Manager oversees and manages all billing and collections activities, ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims, efficient collection of payments, and compliance with healthcare regulations. This role leads the billing team, implements best practices, and optimizes revenue cycle processes to improve cash flow, reduce outstanding balances, and provide key financial forecasts. Additionally, the leader manages department operations within the established budget.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages the daily operations of the medical billing and collections department.
  • Ensures accurate submission of claims and timely follow-up on outstanding payments.
  • Oversees billing team, providing training and support to optimize performance.
  • Analyzes and resolves billing discrepancies, denials, and payment delays.
  • Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and payer requirements.
  • Monitors and forecasts bad debt, cash flow, and overall financial performance related to billing.
  • Collaborates with finance teams to create accurate cash flow forecasts and bad debt provisions.
  • Implements financial controls and reporting to improve revenue cycle management and cash collection efficiency.
  • Manages departmental operations to ensure alignment with budgetary goals and cost-effectiveness.
  • Produces analytics and responds as needed to those reports and takes action.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree preferred in finance, healthcare administration or related field, with a minimum of three years of related experienceEquivalent work experience may substitute education requirements.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in cash flow forecasting, bad debt management, and budget adherence.
  • Proven experience in medical billing, collections, and revenue cycle management.
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing regulations, HIPAA compliant 837 billing, and coding (ICD, CPT, etc.).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Certified in Medical Billing or Coding preferred (e.g., CPC, CPB).

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office or home office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
