Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has an immediate opening for a Vice President, Distributed Energy and Sustainability in our External Affairs department. The primary functions of this position will be to manage and direct all cooperative programs in the areas of energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, demand response and distributed energy resources. Provide strategic recommendations to the executive staff regarding new and emerging technologies, supports and ensures alignment with power supply plans, develops and manages environmental, renewable and sustainability goals, manages utility scale, solar projects and customer DER interconnections, manages electric vehicles, battery storage, and beneficial electrification programs, and advocates policies that meet the cooperative members' interests. Lastly, this position will develop, manage and monitor internal environmental and conservation programs including recycling, energy efficiency and conservation, sustainability and demand response.

This position requires a candidate who is focused on innovation and who is genuinely interested and enthusiastic about helping guide SMECO's customer-members through the energy transformation and supporting the energy and environmental policy goals of the State of Maryland. The successful candidate will also need to focus considerable attention on internal team development and cross functional area support.

This position requires a four-year college degree. Graduate Degree preferred.

Preference given for related work experience with a regulated utility company. Experience in grants and contract administration desired. Must have supervisory experience, customer relations, and management. Must have the ability to educate and train managers and the workforce, make presentations and to influence skills. Must have the ability to manage technical issues and problems concerning energy use, new technology, cost analysis and energy efficiency. Must have experience in utility regulatory and political environments. Excellent public speaking skills, mathematical skills, and the ability to work constructively with parties that may have divergent interests is required.

The starting salary range for this position is $139,500 -$195,100. SMECO offers and excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
