The Department of Medical Genetics is seeking a tenure track Medical Geneticist at the Assistant Professor rank or higher commencing December 2024 or later. The successful candidate will provide specialist consultative services for both inpatients and outpatients and will participate in developing and guiding strategies for improving the health and health care of Albertans. The Medical Geneticist will also participate fully in University of Alberta academic teaching and training activities. The ideal candidate would also have a concrete interest in research and willing to develop an independent research program.
Alberta Health Services provides clinical and metabolic services to the Province of Alberta via two sites (Edmonton and Calgary). The North (Edmonton) zone is responsible for the Northern region of Alberta and provides genetic services for the Northwest Territory. We are currently a team of 10 Clinical and Metabolic Physicians supported by genetic counsellors and genetic counselling assistants. The Program participates in a fully accredited Canadian College of Medical Geneticists training program.
Department summary The Department of Medical Genetics is one of 21 departments in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FoMD). Senior staff in the department comprise Physicians, Scientists and Laboratory geneticists. FoMD is comprised of 7 Research Institutes, and 6 Core facilities. - M.D. or equivalent degree and must hold or be eligible for permanent licensing in the province of Alberta,
- Specialist certification in medical genetics with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada,
- Be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or above at the University of Alberta;
- PhD in an appropriate discipline is a solid asset;
- Candidates will also be considered if they possess comparable training and certification from other countries.
