Job Summary:

The Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Manager will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, policies, and procedures at a 350-person engineering, general contracting, and construction firm. This role will focus on creating, implementing, and maintaining effective HSE programs to minimize risks and promote a culture of safety. The SHE Manager will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, clients and other department heads to foster a safe and compliant workplace.

What You'll Do:
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive SHE policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Conduct risk assessments and job safety analyses (JSAs) to identify and mitigate hazards associated with construction, engineering, and general contracting activities.
  • Develop capital construction project written safety plans for client submittal.
  • Establish and maintain safety and environmental performance metrics and goals.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure employee awareness and participation in HSE programs.
  • Monitor and ensure company-wide and client compliance with applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations, standards, and client requirements.
  • Maintain ISNetworld, Avetta and other third party qualification auditing companies. This is safety oriented but also includes, insurance, ESG initiatives and other items that are required by clients in order to maintain a prequalified statues with the client.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, coordinating inspections, reporting incidents, and ensuring timely and accurate documentation and record-keeping.
  • Manage the federal regulatory annual reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and manage initial and annual client HSE compliance documentation directed by client 3rd party HSE compliance agencies.
  • Conduct internal HSE audits and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Develop and deliver training programs on various SHE topics, including workplace safety, hazard communication, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response.
  • Ensure that all employees, contractors, and subcontractors are adequately trained in SHE best practices, procedures, and regulations.
  • Periodically provide relevant company-wide safety communications and remote site safety toolbox talks.
  • Oversee training record maintenance and ensure all certifications are up-to-date.
  • Lead investigations into workplace adverse events, incidents without injury, injuries, serious near misses, or environmental incidents, identifying underlying and root causes, and developing sustainable corrective actions and improvement implementation to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage the reporting and documentation of all adverse events, incidents without injury, injuries, near misses, and otherwise unsafe conditions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide input to insurance carriers, and work with human resources and site managers to ensure workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs are well managed in a concise and timely manner.
  • Be a resource and advisor for project teams, ensuring SHE is integrated into project planning and execution.
  • Proactively and on a regular basis initiated conversation with managers to discuss upcoming projects and areas where safety can be a resources for the manager.
  • Regularly communicate SHE performance, issues, and initiatives to senior management, employees, and contractors.
  • Participate in project meetings, safety committees, periodic toolbox talks and other relevant forums that ensure effective topics are communicated.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to safety, health, and the environment.
  • Identify quantitative and qualitative HSE gaps or weaknesses and Implement sustainable continuous improvement initiatives that deliver overall program improvement.
  • Encourage a proactive, preventative approach to safety with focusing on prevention, cultural and behavioral engagement and HSE program ownership buy-in.

Your Background Should Include:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in SHE management, in the construction or engineering industry.
  • Strong regulatory knowledge of OSHA's 29CFR 1910 and 1926 requirements, ANSI, NFPA, NIOSH, and EPA.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, job safety analyses and planning, adverse event investigations, and environmental audits.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train, influence, and collaborate with employees at all levels.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) are strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficient written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in HSE software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Compensation and benefits offering:
  • Base Salary range - $90,000 - $130,000 (based upon experience).
  • Additional Incentive Pay for overtime hours.
  • Annual Profit Sharing Bonus (variable).
