The Solution Manager is a manager that leads a team responsible for facilitating completion of complex and large IT initiatives through the full lifecycle. A key focus is outcomes - managing essential elements of key initiatives through all phases of the life cycle, then measuring and communicating progress toward the initiative's identified goals (measures). This person manages financial, technical and human resources supporting end-to-end IT solution lifecycle ownership.

This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel.

Responsibilities

The Solution Manager is primarily responsible for guiding, managing and coordinating the work of a team of Program Managers and identifies and implements opportunities for team improvement. Ensures learning and unity in the team is occurring.

Responsibilities include:
  • Recommending advancement, promotion or any other change of status of employees within their reporting line.
  • Reviewing staffing needs and resource allocation with approved initiatives on a regular basis and addresses issues proactively.
  • Demonstrating leadership and creating a high performing workforce.
  • Utilizing the Leadership Pattern in all aspects of the role.

Additional responsibilities include facilitation and coordination of:
  • initiative delivery between teams.
  • providing measurements for an initiative and its delivery time frame.
  • the project for all involved teams, including . . .
    • engineering
    • marketing
    • customer support
    • others as needed to ensure alignment around the initiative's goals and plans.
  • removing any impediments that may obstruct a team or an initiative's progress.
  • resolution of schedule conflicts and dependencies between different priorities and teams.
  • escalating priority conflicts to be resolved quickly when teams have different priorities.

A Solution Manager's role is that of being a master communicator.
  • Help each team and individual make correct decisions.
  • Constantly and unrelentingly optimizing an initiative's schedule.
  • Work with team leaders to understand meaningful measures of success for the initiative and contribute to the team's efforts to properly evaluate and align the initiative outcomes.
  • Coordinate delivery of activities and artifacts, schedule, budget, communication, and reporting related to initiatives.

With other team leaders the Solution Manager:
  • champions and defends development processes.
  • works to coordinate and resolve all cross-team initiatives and impediments.
  • manages risks and dependencies.
  • contributes to cross-team capacity utilization to ensure initiative progress while reporting on any delivery concerns.
  • provides data, metrics and reports for decision making and transparency.
  • monitors and reports on team and initiative ROI metrics' business value and post-delivery effectiveness while summarizing and reporting on learnings, including postproduction readiness and KPIs (did it meet the measure of success).
  • coordinates vendor and external stakeholders in creating, tracking, and coordinating resources.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 12 years of progressive experience managing IT initiatives including at least three years of people management responsibility within a technology organization
  • Excellent track record of project management skills
  • Proven ability to manage broad and complex solutions with large budgets
  • Must have strong experience building and maintaining executive-level client and vendor relationships
  • Must understand business needs are preeminent, facilitated by technology
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong technology background
  • Demonstrated expertise at establishing vision and can translate that vision into business solutions
  • Demonstrated success building, deploying and operating enterprise-class Initiatives
  • Ability to manage full life cycle initiative delivery
  • Strong IT product and demonstrated operational experience, including managing budget, resource management and metrics
  • Able to deliver results in an environment of competing priorities and changing project scope.
  • Experience with cost analysis, budgeting, performance management and metrics
  • This job operates in a professional office environment
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment

Preferred:
  • Master's degree
