Mechanical Engineer

Participating in the research & development of existing Carel products and the development of new and custom solutions. Areas of specialty can include electronics, humidification and mechanical products for the HVAC/R market.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Conducts or assists in conducting tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors.


  • Confers with other Product Development personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop designs.
  • Prepares product or system layouts and creates detailed drawings and schematics.
  • Plans and prepares product bills of materials (BOM), and implements them in the data management system.
  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
  • Plans, develops and runs test & validation programs to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Research of components to meet specifications.
  • Communication with suppliers or manufacturers for technical issues and new designs.
  • Assist with design modifications using the Engineer Change Order (ECO) process.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
  • Assists with customer support and trouble-shooting, and assists the Sales/Marketing department.
  • Participate in field startups and tests as needed.
  • Support Operations department in technical or product related issues.
  • Working with the Purchasing team for quotes, engineering samples, and first piece inspections.
  • Participate in Lean continuous improvement activities.

EDUCATION and TECH SKILLS

A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electro-mechanical Engineering or related degree or experience is preferred.
  • Solidworks (preferred) or equivalent 3D modeling experience
  • Experience with MSOffice and Google suite products
  • Experience with HVAC/R systems
  • Experience with corporate ERP systems, Oracle preferred
  • Knowledge with LEAN principles and ISO:9000 helpful
  • Experience with Product design
  • Knowledge of UL and product safety certifications


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Good verbal and written language communications skills.

Good technical writing ability.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Engineering level

REASONING ABILITY

Engineering problem solving.

Design visualization.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

None required initially.

May be asked to participate with relevant trade organizations (ASHRAE, AHRI, ASME, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to reasonably lift and move components up to 50 pounds in weight. Full mobility to use ladders.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office space will be provided.
