Under the general supervision of the Executive Director or his designee, serves as the principal for Jumoke Academy Honors at the Hartford Conservatory; insures that all educational programs of the school are operating in accordance with policies of Connecticut educational law and the Board of Directors administrative procedures, rules and regulations. Provides leadership in academic and curriculum program development and improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/License: Connecticut State 092 Certification or be eligible for CT certification
Education: An accredited Bachelor's; Master's Degree; 6th Year
Experience: At least six years of teaching experience at the elementary and/or middle school level, preferably in more than one grade level

- Knowledge of teaching methods and educational pedagogy
- Knowledge of faculty and staff evaluation protocol.
- Knowledge of student led conferences.
- Knowledge of interim assessments that inform instruction.
- Knowledge of elementary and middle school curriculum and concepts
- Knowledge of administration and supervision.
- Ability to organize, manage and coordinate work.
- Ability to prepare oral and written communications for distribution to employees, students, parents and community.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, parents and others.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
- Knowledge of Arts programing to include but not limited to chorus, strings, band, dance and visual arts.
- Develops school programs and objectives in alignment with school district goals, school theme, and philosophy of achieving academic and social excellence for its students.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extra-curricular activities.
- Promotes a elementary and/or middle school philosophy environment conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum
- Promotes development and student learning as evidenced by student's performance on state and district standardized assessments.
- Recommends the selection of texts and other teaching materials.
- Anticipates and addresses problems that may arise in a resourceful and consistent manner.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in education by attending seminars, workshops and professional meetings, and by reading educational journals and conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping for all -student records as required by law. Coordinates with the Talent Management Office for the proper maintenance of employee personnel files.
- Works with community groups, youth organizations and other organizations to further student achievement.
- Ensures that parents are kept informed of their children's progress.
- Encourages teaching staff to keep abreast of developments in the educational field, to engage in staff development, and to continue to grow professionally.
- Organizes and conducts regular meetings with teachers for continuing development of instructional techniques.
- Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.
- Reviews qualifications of academic candidates and recommends for hire to the Executive Director the most qualified teaching, academic assistant and academic support staff for the school, consistent with Board policies.
- Conducts orientation for new employees in accordance with District policies.
- Supervises and evaluates teaching staff in accordance with district approved evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.
- Informs and advises the Executive Director in a timely manner about the programs, practices, progress and problems of the school and reports to the Executive Director such matters as deemed material to the understanding and proper managing of the school's educational program, or as may be requested.
- Attends Parent Association meetings and actively updates parents on the status of school matters, educational and extra-curricular activities, and responds to concerns and issues raised by parents.
- Any other assigned duties.
- Travels to policy, informational and professional meetings as required
- Twelve month work year. Standard administrator work schedule, including attendance at Board meetings and other meetings as needed.
- $100,000 to $112,000 a year salary- Depending on Experience and Qualifications.
