We are seeking a full-time Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance to join our team at our facility in Billerica, MA This key role will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing our established food safety and quality assurance processes, ensuring compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal food regulations. This position requires a seasoned Food Safety professional who requires limited direction, so an organized self-starter with at least 15 years of experience in the field is essential to succeeding in this role. This role reports to our VP Food Science Innovation and plays an integral part in maintaining a food safe culture at the company.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and oversee processes and records to evaluate food safety and quality assurance protocols. This includes HACCP system (GMPs, HACCP Plan, PRPs, etc.), regulatory audits, quality systems review process (QSR), standard operating procedures (SOP's), incoming ingredient inspections, food safety audits, product tracing and recalls, field complaints, standardized work instructions, etc.
- Ensure compliance to quality assurance / food safety requirements by achieving and maintaining all certifications at the facility and abiding by applicable local, state and federal food laws.
- Oversee plant compliance and interactions with regulatory body / process authority.
- Develop and manage shelf-life testing system for the determination and verification of product safety and quality.
- Evaluate incoming raw materials and identify issues with suppliers.
- Oversee monitoring, verification, and validation activities to ensure that all products leaving the facility meet food safety and quality standards.
- Implement food tracing program within ERP for full tracking of supply chain.
- Plan and run mock recall trials to prepare effectively for actual recalls.
- Provide guidance and leadership in situations where deviations have occurred, or a potential risk has been identified related to food safety and/or quality attributes.
- Experience with microbiology laboratory techniques and rapid test methods.
- Competence in quality systems/processes (ISO, Six Sigma etc.) requirements.
- Actively participate on root cause analysis, corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Reassess plans whenever there is a change to program, process, procedure, ingredient, equipment, industry philosophy, technology, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or other science related field, Master's Degree preferred
- 15+ years of progressive food safety experience, with at least 3 years in a management capacity within a manufacturing environment under HACCP, USDA and/or FDA
- Experience with dairy / low acid beverages preferred
- Experience with thermal processing such as retort / aseptic processing preferred
- Demonstrated leadership in the areas of food safety, plant regulatory and quality assurance
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
- One or more of the following certifications: HACCP, PCQI, SQF Practitioner
- Ability to work in a team environment
