Description:
Shook, Hardy and Bacon is growing and looking to add a Legal (law firm) Practice Manager to strategically support our growth. The ideal candidate will have operational experience and be adept at building rapport to partner with Practice Managing Partners, C-Suite, and staff. To successfully carry out the responsibilities of this position, the selected candidate should expect to work onsite in our Kansas City, MO headquarters 4 days per week. The Practice Manager:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA preferred.May supervise various practice group staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Regularly makes significant operating decisions and takes independent action impacting the practice group and/or firm.
- Manages day-to-day financial relationships with practice group clients, including, development and tracking of client budgets, communicating with clients regarding various financial issues, and responding to client audit and other requests.
- In coordination with internal groups, develops, negotiates, and implements creative and profitable pricing strategies, including alternative fee arrangements with appropriate consideration given recent pricing trends and competitive intelligence. Ensures the availability of adequate resources to effectively achieve the business results required to sustain the pricing strategies.
- Prepares and conducts presentations to clients on various issues, such as budgeting, vendor utilization, and strategic planning.
- Oversees or develops internal and external reports on relevant performance metrics, including factors that drive efficiencies and superior performance. Provides recommendations to Practice Group leadership and clients regarding same.
- Maximizes attorney productivity by minimizing the administrative burden on all timekeepers.
- Prepares for, coordinates, and attends practice group meetings; prepares agenda items and meeting minutes.
- Assists with various client development and marketing efforts, including responses to RFPs, strategic business development plans, marketing brochures, and overall coordination of practice group marketing efforts.
- Provides support for new business intake process, including conflict issues, matter opening, and engagement letters.
- Assumes responsibility for various ad hoc task forces and projects that directly impact practice management operations, processes, and procedures.
- Develops forums to enhance transfer of knowledge, continuous improvement, and providing better service to attorneys and clients.
- Coordinates the hiring of practice group attorneys with legal recruiting. Coordinates practice group LAA needs with Firm Services Supervisor.
- Coordinates workflow and staffing issues with practice group Legal Service Manager.
- Coordinates development of annual practice group budget.
- Assists with evaluating, selecting, and managing relationships with practice group litigation vendors, such as medical record collection vendors, national court reporting vendors, trial graphics vendors, and jury research providers.
- Facilitates the integration of practice group work processes with the rest of the Firm to eliminate redundancies and drive efficiency where it makes sense to do so.
- Manages the development of practice group technology including evaluation and approval of practice group hardware, case management, extranet, and software needs.
- Provides accurate and timely responses to client inquiries and outside counsel.
- Keeps COO abreast of current issues and potential problems as they develop; seeks advice as needed.
