The key function of the Administrator in the Department of Cardiac Surgery is the financial management and oversight of the department and the management and integration of the divisions of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at other Jefferson hospitals .

- The financial management and oversight of all departmental TJU accounts, TJU academic and research activities. Oversee and manage the financial and budgetary aspects of the department.
- The financial management and oversight of all divisions of CT surgery in Jefferson. Oversee and manage the financial and budgetary aspects of the divisions
- Develop the operating budget for the department and divisions. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility, monitors progress against plans and budgets
- Resolves department budgetary issues and concerns relating to College Finance, and Offices of Research Supports Services. . Identify and resolve issues relating to departmental accounts, personnel, budgetary, grant closeouts
- Review , and approve grant application submissions for ORA and clinical trial submissions for OSA as the Department's Administrator. Review process includes the completion of appropriate internal forms, accurate budgetary information, and appropriate signatures. Responsible for handling all paperwork for multiple contracts submitted to ORA for new and existing sponsors. Meets deadline(s) in a timely fashion. Maintain grant file(s) for each individual sponsored program grant account.
- Responsible for strategic business planning including the development of business plans for new and existing department initiatives at TJUH and throughout Jefferson
- Departmental signatory authorization: request for payments, request to purchase, petty cash vouchers, travel reimbursements, etc... Identify and assign correct charge codes for all non-federal grant expenditures and clinical trial
- Maintain confidential information and personnel files. Ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely fashion, handle merit increases and obtain salary information. Process PAR's and PAF's. Interact with Human Resources relating to any HR matters. Process PAF's for accurate salary distributions in the department
- Review effort certification reports for Exempt and Non-Exempt Professorial and Professorial Staff in a timely fashion. Ensure effort information is submitted accurately and obtain PI signatures before submitting originals reports to ORA. Maintain divisional file copies
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the iSCORE values of Jefferson
