Performance Requirements
- Responsible for assisting the Director Behavioral Health Services with administration, planning, and management of the Behavioral Health Unit Directs nursing services in the Behavioral Health Services Department. Demonstrates knowledge of current evidence based psychiatric treatment needs of patient population served. (Patient population is defined in each department's Scope of Practice.)
Qualifications
- Education:
- BSN required with Master's degree preferred. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing preferred with current licensure in Indiana required. Psychiatric nurse certification recommended.
- License:

- Training:
- Preceptor orientation one to three months. CPR Provider-C required within 30 days of hire.
- Experience:
- Three to five years clinical experience and education in medical and/or behavioral health nursing in which nursing leadership and management skills have been demonstrated.
- Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge and application of the principles of personnel administration in assigning, supervising, and evaluating activities of staff. Excellent communication skills imperative in relating to staff, physicians, patients, visitors, Department Directors, and employees of other departments. Excellent problem-solving ability.
Knowledge and skills which enable the assumption of responsibility for the nature and quality of nursing care rendered to patients. Thorough knowledge of nursing theory and practice and theory in psychiatric services. Familiarity with organization, functions, policies and procedures of hospital as they relate to Patient Services. Knowledge of the value of rehabilitation concept in promotion of mental and physical health. Completion of basic skills checklist within 60 days. Provides education for the patient addressing the educational needs that have been identified.
Performance Requirements
- Responsibility:
- Responsibility for assisting the Director Behavioral Health Services with formulating, interpreting, and executing department and hospital policies. Coordinates educational activities of the department; promoting and maintaining communication, cooperation, and continuity of patient care between clinical departments, medical staff, and nursing in conjunction with the Director Behavioral Health Services. Supports the hospital's objectives, mission, philosophy, and policies. Maintains compliance with Nursing Standards of Care and Nursing Practice. Monitors Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement (QA/PI) studies and coordinates corrective action. Promotes professional growth of staff. Promotes patient and staff safety, infection control, and standard precautions. Maintains knowledge of current standards of regulatory bodies. Responsible for timekeeping, employee schedules, staff competency, and evaluations.
- Physical Demands:
- Much standing and walking involved. Occasional lifting, bending, and stooping is required. Visual, auditory, and speech acuity essential. Works in nursing areas and rooms which are well-lighted, heated, and ventilated; some exposure to disagreeable conditions. May come in contact with hazardous health conditions; however, if proper procedure is followed no harm should come to employee.

- Maintains composure in stressful situations. Requires a high degree of concentration in order to make accurate decisions. Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills, ability to make independent decisions, and consistently accepts responsibility for decisions and actions. Requires an understanding of intra/interdepartmental communication. Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values, and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude. Demonstrates initiative and judgment in adapting or developing techniques and procedures to meet/improve Behavioral Health Services. Nurses are encouraged to be actively involved in the community as leaders in health and wellness promotion.
