Job Title: Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) Job Specialty: Cardiovascular Surgical Services Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Monday-Friday, 5 AM - around 12 noon or until the case is completed Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of demonstrated proficiency in scrubbing and circulating License: Licensed RN able to practice within the state Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS)- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)- NIH Stroke Scale- RNFA course completion- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) Must-Have: - A minimum of 24 hours of demonstrated proficiency in scrubbing and circulating- Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program- Completion of an approved course in RN First Assisting Job Description: - The RNFA operates under the supervision of the Surgical Specialty Coordinator when not in the sterile field but practices perioperative nursing under the surgeon's supervision during operations.- Assists the surgeon to perform safe operations, achieving optimal patient results.- Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, and co-workers, maintaining a strong customer service focus.- Provides exceptional patient and coworker experiences by consistently using positive language.- Demonstrates independence and sound judgment in interactions with the interprofessional care team.- Fosters a positive work environment with the OR team.- Collaborates actively with the OR team by communicating and reporting pertinent information clearly.- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients undergoing surgical intervention.- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary for patient care relevant to their age-specific needs.- Documents care as per hospital policy and maintains accurate implant logs.- Exhibits critical thinking skills, especially in emergency situations.- Acts as a patient and family advocate to monitor and maintain patient rights.- Establishes therapeutic communication and collaborates with the healthcare team on the plan of care.- Coordinates care for complex patients with the interprofessional team, supported by accurate documentation.- Contributes to safety and quality improvements through peer accountability and reporting near misses.- Skillfully sets up and troubleshoots Operating Room equipment like electrocautery, bipolar devices, and more.
