Job Description
With limited supervision of the Chief Distribution Engineer of Distribution Engineering, performs engineering work in the Distribution and Transmission Standards area. The work involves the design, development, review and update Company's transmission, substation, and distribution engineering, material, and construction standards/guidelines. Investigate material issues, failure trends and problems with standard installations. Maintain all standards in hard copy and electronic media forms. Attends and represents the Company at industry meetings. The scope of responsibilities involve the engineering specifications and design standards applicable to the transmission and distribution systems, and civil/electrical engineering standards for transmission and distribution substations.

Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- With some general guidance, serve as standards design engineer for Distribution, Transmission and Substation materials, equipment, and components to insure compliance with appropriate codes, standards, specifications and company polices and work practices.
- Investigates and obtains approval for proposed alternate manufacturers of materials as requested or required by Materials Management, Electric Operations, Engineering, Metering, Commercial Operations and other Company Departments.
- Coordinates with the Documentation Design Department and outside drafting contractors for completion of construction, material, & engineering drawings, standards & specifications.
- Assist the Operations Departments by reviewing and/or proposing material and hardware for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
- Performs specification review and field inspections and field measurements as may be required, to investigate material and equipment failures.
- Keeps informed and up to date of the latest industry standards and developments in the distribution, transmission, and substation engineering.
- Consults with manufacturers to determine causes of equipment failures. Prepares report of findings and makes recommendations.
- Participate in the Companys Emergency Response Plan through a designated storm assignment.
- Perform other related assignments as required.

Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 3-5 years work experience in Distribution, Transmission or Substation Design.
- Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering
- Familiarity with electric distribution, transmission, and substation design and construction. Required
- Well-organized, detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines. Required
- Understands construction and operation of a modern electric power system. Required
- Ability to interpret layout, one-line, and schematic drawings. Required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management. Required
- Strong analytical, technical and interpersonal skills. Required
- Ability to apply good individual judgment, initiative, creativity and decision making in the handling of assignments. Required
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Windows environments is required Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Project. Required
- Demonstrated analytical skills

- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

- Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred

- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Must be able to safely perform witness tests at DER field sites.
