At Pacific Smoke International, our mission is to help people quit smoking by providing safer alternatives to traditional cigarettes. As the leading distributor of electronic vaporizers and award-winning vaping products in Canada, we've made significant progress since our founding in 2013. However, we have much more to accomplish for our customers, and we're looking for a culturally aligned Team Lead, Data, Analytics, and Governance to join our dynamic team located in Markham.

This is a hybrid position: 3 days on-site

As the Technical Lead for Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, and Governance, you will be at the forefront of our data strategy, overseeing the integration and management of data across the organization. This role involves leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver cutting-edge BI solutions, insightful analytics, and robust data governance frameworks. You will play a critical role in transforming data into actionable intelligence and ensuring the integrity and compliance of our data assets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead the BI and Analytics Team: Guide a team of BI developers, data analysts, and data governance professionals. Provide mentorship and foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
  • Performance Management: Set clear goals, conduct regular performance evaluations, and offer constructive feedback to drive team success.
  • Encourage Collaboration: Promote a collaborative approach within the team and across departments to enhance data initiatives and outcomes.

2. Strategic Data Leadership
  • Formulate Data Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that integrates BI, analytics, and governance to support business objectives.
  • Identify and Capitalize on Opportunities: Recognize and act on opportunities to use data to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.
  • Champion Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.

3. Business Intelligence and Analytics Solutions
  • Oversee BI and Analytics Development: Manage the design, development, and deployment of BI tools, dashboards, and analytics solutions that meet business needs and drive insights.
  • Advanced Data Analytics: Lead the application of advanced analytics techniques, including machine learning and predictive modelling, to generate deeper business insights.
  • Ensure Data Accuracy and Relevance: Maintain high standards of data accuracy and relevance in all BI and analytics outputs.

4. Data Governance and Compliance
  • Implement Robust Data Governance: Develop and maintain data governance frameworks to ensure data integrity, quality, and security.
  • Data Stewardship: Promote best practices for data stewardship across the organization to enhance data management and usage.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all data processes and practices comply with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.

5. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
  • Understand and Translate Business Needs: Work closely with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and translate these into effective BI and analytics solutions.
  • Communicate Insights Clearly: Present complex data insights and governance policies in a clear and actionable manner to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support Strategic Decision-Making: Provide data-driven insights that support strategic planning and operational decisions across the organization.

6. Operational Management
  • Manage Data Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the BI, analytics, and governance functions, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of services.
  • Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively to meet project and operational needs.
  • Monitor System Performance: Ensure the reliability and performance of BI and analytics systems and address any issues proactively.

7. Innovation and Continuous Improvement
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Keep up with the latest trends and technologies in BI, analytics, and data governance. Evaluate and adopt new tools and methodologies to enhance capabilities.
  • Promote Learning and Development: Encourage ongoing professional development and continuous learning within the team.
  • Drive Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of data operations.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
  • 7-10 years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or data governance.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing BI, analytics, and data governance teams.
  • Extensive experience in developing and executing data strategies and governance frameworks.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, QlikView).
  • Strong hands-on experience in data warehousing, ETL processes, and data modelling.
  • Expertise in SQL and data query languages.
  • Familiarity with data governance tools and frameworks.
  • Experience with advanced analytics and machine learning techniques.
  • Knowledge of big data technologies and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
