Position overview
We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Manager, Planning in the Airport Development and Asset Optimization Department. Reporting to the Director, Planning, the successful candidate has a strong passion for aviation and will be responsible for coordination and delivery of airport plans across airside, terminal, baggage, groundside, utilities and real estate that align with the Vancouver Airport Authority's Strategy and Master Plan.

Position overview

Reporting to the Director, Planning, the successful candidate has a strong passion for aviation and will be responsible for coordination and delivery of airport plans across airside, terminal, baggage, groundside, utilities and real estate that align with the Vancouver Airport Authority's Strategy and Master Plan.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Director, Planning in the preparation of the YVR Master Plan, Land Use Plan and provision of inputs into Investment Plans
- Leading preparation and update of Airport Infrastructure Plans working closely with other business units including Airport Capacity and System Design, Engineering, Finance, Climate and Environment, Passenger Experience and Operational teams
- Identifying opportunities to realize Strategic Plan objectives and apply strategic planning lenses across airport infrastructure and operations
- Directing the preparation of complex planning studies for the development and improvement of airport facilities, infrastructure and land assets
- Contributing to the preparation of conceptual designs, site selection studies, options analyses in support of identified needs
- Coordinating and addressing input from internal departments, stakeholders, business partners and external planning agencies
- Representing the Airport Authority on regional planning forums
Key qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation Planning, Urban Planning, Engineering/ Industrial Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered
- At least 10 years of progressive and professional-level planning experience, preferably in an airport environment
- Registered as a Professional Engineer, a Registered Professional Planner or Architect in the Province of British Columbia, or eligible for professional registration
- Knowledge of principles of strategic planning; airport planning; airport and airline procedures and processes
- Demonstrated experience in leading preparation of planning documents including feasibility studies, master plans, infrastructure plans, land use plans, conceptual designs. option evaluation and business cases
- Effective project management methods and techniques and demonstrated ability to manage consultants in delivery of outputs in an efficient and timely manner
- Experience leading a team of professionals including hiring, coaching, mentoring, and applying disciplinary actions as required
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships, trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in the English language and demonstrated experience developing and presenting written and verbal reports to a senior audience on complex issues
- High energy, well organized, detail oriented, able to juggle multiple assignments and adaptable to changing priorities
- Ability to influence, think critically, make complex decisions and work in a collaborative team environment
