EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school graduate or GED or equivalent years of education
- Associate's degree or 3-5 years of experience in pharmacy with a focus on EMR and pharmacy automation.
- Proficiency in Epic Willow modules (Inpatient, Ambulatory, Inventory), and experience with other pharmacy automation systems (e.g., automated dispensing cabinets, carousels, robots, pumps).
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or similar healthcare certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Informatics or IT analyst experience.
- Epic Willow proficiency, accreditation, and/or certification

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Participate in the planning, analysis, design, testing, and implementation of pharmacy-related computer systems such as Epic Willow applications, infusion pumps, dispensing cabinets, and automated systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell).
- Serve as a resource for Pharmacist Informatics Specialists when mission-critical updates are needed or problems are identified
- Understand and optimize operational workflows in both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy settings.
- Evaluate the impact the information systems have on daily user workflow and coordinates work with users and Information Services to resolve conflicts between workflow and the information systems
- Serve as a team leader or project manager for small-scale projects related to pharmacy informatics.
- Conduct system maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades to ensure data integrity and system reliability.
- Update and maintain systems to ensure accuracy in medication charging and revenue integrity Provide training and support to pharmacy staff on system usage and updates.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements and maintain accurate documentation of system processes and changes.
- Use ticket management system to communicate with customers and close tickets as assigned
- Participate and follows all change management standards.
- Meets or exceed service level agreement metrics for supported applications based on identified project objectives
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Knowledge of pharmacy operations and workflows and general understanding of hospital/clinic operations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex medication software systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders including pharmacy staff, IT analysts, vendors, and leadership
- Proficient knowledge and use of computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel)
- Exceptional time management skills
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT
- Work primarily takes place in a comfortable indoor environment.
- May require occasional heavy lifting and exposure to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and hazardous medications.
- Majority of work will be utilizing computers which requires long periods of sitting, typing, and viewing computer screens
- Extended hours and on-call availability as needed to support pharmacy informatics and UTMB enterprise operations.
- Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs.
- Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required.
- Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal and written communication.
- May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients or others
